"Scared Shrekless" talkback (mild spoilers)

WTF BOOM

Scared Shrekless aired tonight on NBC and we're gonna discuss it. I don't know about you, but I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Better than Shrek The Halls, I'll say. The set-up was good, the stories were funny, I think this is a Halloween special you'll wanna watch again and again. :)

I haven't seen a Shrek movie since Shrek 2, and I'd say this was about on par with that film - not terribly original (three horror movie parodies wrapped in a Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror"-style format), but still decently funny. Nothing to bring the house down, though it had its moments. For instance, the revelation that Jiminy Cricket was the "evil spirit" possessing Pinocchio made me chuckle, and I did enjoy Donkey and Puss In Boots trying to one-up each other while telling their story. In fact, I'd say that segment was the best one, since it felt a lot more character-driven and the jokes came faster.

In short, not something I'd seek to watch again, but an okay time filler. Basically what I've come to expect from DreamWorks in general.

I also was thinking this is like Shreks Treehouse of Terror.(I like the two "t" words together) Except a lot less funny then The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror.
The one with the Gingerbread Man had a good atmosphere for a horror story. He?s a total jerk for kicking his girlfriend into the cookie dough, though.

I thought this special showed a lot of effort, but I hardly cracked a smile the whole time. Except nearly during the Jiminy Cricket reveal, that is one really creepy looking cricket, and the thought of egging the Seven Dwarves was amusing to me.

Well that was... creepy. It really was. I mean we saw spoofs of movie such as The Exorcist and Psycho. The Psycho segment really creeped me out. Overall not bad, but I wouldn't recommend watching it with really young children.

Finally got around to seeing it. Thought it was really funny. With that being said, how much you wanna bet they'll make a Shrek Thanksgiving special?

In due time, I'm sure.

Don't forget about the inevitable Valentine's Day special. Hey, maybe they can even do an Easter special as well! Give 'em both a catchy title, a few celebrity cameos and parodies, and I'm sure they'll still come out better than Shrek 3.

You know, I just read Eddie Murphy did NOT play Donkey in this special. It was Dean Edwards. I couldn't tell, but I wonder why Murphy didn't appear in the special.

I'm amused they got away with the title. I thought it was pretty funny, lots of laughs throughout. Seeing Pinnochio all bugged out like that (literally) was great, but Bride of Gingy was my favorite just because of the narration.

I thought that too, but Gingy can be excused since he just made up that story and none of it actually happened.

I saw this and enjoyed it. All the stories were pretty funny, but Shrek's was the winner. Puss and Donkey's was funny as well as Gingy's. However, I feel as though there was a lot of missed potential in this special. I mean, having it set in Lord Farquaad's castle, and you don't even see him as a ghost, or even in a flashback? Oh, well. Still, this was pretty good.
