Help !! this morning I took my schnauzer 13 weeks old to get her first grooming ( bath and hair cut ) we live in a hot place, when we got home she acted scared, she is being hiding in the closet, she never cried before, she now rubs her behing on the floor and acts scared of everything, will this continue ? this is my first puppy,

Any suggestions to make her feel better - I dont think talking to a vet will make her feel better I just dont want her to be sad and scared.

Thanks

First and foremost DO NOT CODDLE your dog.
The first grooming is always a bit scary. Little kids cry at the barber shop, but they still need a hair cut. So do puppies.

Think about it like this.
The dog barely knows you.
You drop the puppy off at a strange place with strange people and lots of other dogs.
They brush your puppy, how weird.
They turn on this loud buzzing thing and it vibrates! Then they rub it all over the dog's body. Even weirder!
They clip its nails and pluck the ears. That might not feel too good. But the people are careful.
They shave your dog's butt and privates. That’s crazy!!
Then they spray water on the poor dog and apply soap that taste bad :p
After that the puppy gets roughed up with a towel and now wait this is the really scary part!
That turn on a blow dryer and make air go all over the dog!!!!!!
It’s horrifying!!!!!!
Lastly your puppy goes back in to a strange cage until you come rescue it.
Please what ever you do, don't make a big deal about it unless you think the dog is actually hurt in some way. Other wise you’re well on your way to creating yet another freaky, snappy evil little dog that is physco and no one wants to groom.
The best thing to do is act normal and do something fun like go for a walk.
Grooming is going to happen for the rest of your dog's life, they get use to it.

If you think about it this way- if you do something for the 1st time you're always nervous. Pet her and calm her down, give her treats and if it continues call the vet for advice and if necessary you might need to take her. I hope that helps!

If this is your dog's first trip to the groomer, she is probably just a little started. She was just poked, prodded, cut, bathed etc and is just trying to process what just happened.

She's probably rubbing her bottom on the ground because normally when dogs go to the groomer they get their butt's checked for anal sacks. It's gross, but, some dogs will get puss pockets on their bottoms and they need to be popped. A groomer or vet does this. If this didn't happen, then it could be that her butt is itchy from the fur being cut.

My dog got back from the groomer once and he kept rubbing his butt on the ground because his fur was gone so it was airy lol. It was a weird feeling for him!

Give it a day, see if she's feeling better. Be affectionate, but, also give her time to herself. She'll be fine.
