Overview of me: 31 year old female, overweight (BMI of 34)
Prior problems: Gallbladder removed at age 20, chronic stomach problems since but I've gotten used to it. Had laparoscopic surgery 3 weeks ago to remove endometriosis and fibriod tumors. Do not smoke, drink or use drugs. Caffeine is limited to one cup of coffee a morning. Work is not stressful and I'm in a happy marriage. I have had problems sleeping for years.
New problems:
Monday - felt randomly dizzy a few times during the day, as though the room was spinning. Didn't worry too much about it.
Tuesday - felt tired, short of breath, and dizzy in the afternoon. Got winded walking up a small flight of stairs.
Tuesday night - woke up several times in the middle of the night with tightness in the chest, trouble breathing, and heart palpitations. Was awake for several hours trying to relax and ignore the problem. Woke up my husband and considered going to the emergency room. Decided to lie down for a bit. Symptoms seemed to subside a bit, so I went to work.
Wednesday - Felt ok for the first few hours at work, then symptoms came back severely. Heart flutter, chest tight, couldn't catch my breath. Decided to go to urgent care center, which sent me to the ER.
At the ER, they did an EKG, blood work and CT scan with contrast. All came back normal. My blood pressure was elevated, but could be due to me being in distress. They sent me home and said to follow up with my regular doctor.
Thursday - some chest tightness and episodes when my heart felt like it skipped a beat or beat hard, but nothing major.
Friday (today) - felt ok until about noon, then started having severe tightness, dizziness and palpitations again. Haven't had coffee for 48 hours. For a while it was so bad I considered going back to the ER, but they ruled out a cardiac event, so I don't know what else they would do. It's now almost 9pm and I'm still having problems - tight chest, palpitations, even a sensation that alternates between cold and burning behind my sternum.
Surely someone has had a similar problem? What was the outcome?
I plan to get a stress test and go see a regular physician to get checked out next week, but I'm afraid these symptoms will become overwhelming before then.
