Saying "I love you" as a joke?

Well today in History (which happens to be a really goofy, fun class) this guy I sit next to touched my hair and said he loved me. He acted all serious and stuff, but he's a class clown and obviously he isn't in love with me. But does it mean he likes me, or is it possible that he was just trying to be funny?
 
happened to me too, they are joking but maybe just think your cool. Or maybe they like you but just want to joke around

He may be interested, or just goofing off. As you said, he's the 'class clown'. We can't read his mind. You'll find out in time if he's actually interested or not.

Its possible he was trying to flirt with you and charm you..
Its also possible that he was trying to be funny, but either way, its definitely not a negative thing.
