SAW V - Official Spoilers Discussion (UK)

One thing I like about the series is how Jigsaw's traps have developed in complexity and scale.

But, do u honestly believe that one or two people could set up certain traps by themselves and without getting noticed i.e Pendulum test (the timing of each swing had to be perfect) , moving walls/glass box being mechanically lowered in time to perfection, how did they lift the giant ice blocks in place that killed detective Matthews in saw iv.

Concept o the original traps were meant to be simple so that anyone could set them up, just by going to a DIY store. Therefore the traps get more riduculous as each saw is released and events do rely heavily on chance.

PS: why is jigsaw targetting cops who have not done anything bad (e.g. Rigg, Kerry).

By the way, I am taking the thread title to mean we can discuss spoilers about with film without spoiler tags. People who are avoiding spoilers will surely avoid the whole thread. (I did.)

I think this film has some of the biggest credibility issues. Are we supposed to think Jigsaw recorded all the tapes in advance? Just after the end of IV, Strahm was told to stay in the final room. He didn't, so someone captured him and put him into the head-box trap. He wasn't supposed to survive this. Hoffman certainly didn't expect Strahm to survive, and was surprised when he did. So how come Jigsaw had prepared the tape addressed to Strahm for the final scenes in the crusher room?

(I have wondered for a while if Jigsaw's tape voice is something that Amanda and Hoffman were able to reproduce on their own. I can understand Jigsaw targeting pimps and drug dealers, and even crooked cops like Eric Mathews, but Rigg is a bit of a stretch, and Kerry, Strahm and Perez seemed like good people. I wonder if Amanda and/or Hoffman did them without Jigsaw's involvement.)

When Hoffman is pushed into the glass box at the end, he seems unhappy about it. Was he acting or did he know what was coming? How could he not know, if he is the one who built this trap-complex? Are we supposed to think Jill snuck in and added this final room? (Hoffman also looks surprised at developments during IV; again, it's not clear if he's acting or whether he knew what was coming. Some events of V suggest he had absolute trust in Jigsaw so he may have been ignorant.)

The thing is, it seems that it's Hoffman's involvement that that increases the complexity of the traps, when Hoffman made the pendulum Jigsaw was making the razor wire and beartrap traps. Maybe 6 will answer the question you're all asking.

This was cleverly got around by Jigsaw's speech about being aware of people's reactions, behaviour and decisions.

It can be argued that Jigsaw knows exactly what's going to happen in each case in every instance, right into the future - hence he could prepare those tapes.

Far fetched? Yes, but it has been explained and is therefore as possible as anything else is in the Saw franchise.

I thought it was 'OK', nothing more. Good to see more of Tobin Bell though.

I have a feeling that Julie Benz character, Brit, will be revealed as being somehow connected with Jigsaw in Saw VI

To clear up some misconceptions in this thread:

Saw V was not directed by James Wan, if was directed by David Hackl, who had worked on Saw II, III and IV. He had nothing to do with the original Saw.

Saw VI is highly unlikely to be the 'last' in the franchise as Saw VII has already been greenlit. Saw V had a production budget of only $10.8m and has already made $14.1m in the States alone and we're no even through opening weekend yet - which means the Saw films will keep on coming.

There was abit in the film i did find puzzling. When the 5 people are playing the game it's Jigsaw's voice that we hear that tells them what to do in each game. Now in Saw IV Jigsaw is in no fit state to do anything, so when did Jigsaw actually record the rules of each game?.We know the game took place after Jigsaw died because Stratham visits the room where Jigsaw died in so did Hoffman collect the 5 people all by himself?.

The reasons for jigsaw punishing people are getting more stupid. He targetted Rigg in saw 4 for trying to save everybody, targetted Kerry in saw 3 for working too hard and now agent straum for trying to find out the truth. The oringinal concept was to punish criminals, drug abusers etc.
In a way, jigsaw shuold therefore be tested for spending too much time trying to give people redemption.

Things we need to find out in saw 6:
What was in amanda's letter, what happened to dr gordon, why obi helped kidnap the others in saw 2, why the hell was Art helping jigsaw in saw 4, why was zepp testen in saw 1, what's jill's involvement.
