I am having knee surgery on the 23rd of this month and then I see another ortho surgeon about my back on the 3rd of June. Hopefully my knee will be healed and doing better by the time I see the surgeon about my back.

I am absolutely and without a doubt terrified of having back surgery.

I wish you the best with your knee surgery! I have knee and back problems-I have had 4 knee surgeries over the years. No back surgery yet, but lots of injections and RFA (nerve burning). It is really hard, because the knees and back can play off each other-usually when my knees are bad, my back gets worse. Let us know how you are progressing-I will be thinking of you! Kera4

Thanx so much. I am not at all concerned about the knee surgery, been through it 4 times on my left one; same day, just a different knee.:dizzy::dizzy: He is not going to mend the torn meniscus just trim back the torn part and remove the other torn part that is flapping freely. It will hurt like heck when I wake up, he did talk to me about pain control and said that might be a bit tricky with all that I am already on and minding that I have to stay within my pain management contract. I will be on crutches for a few days and the back to walking with a cane or using one crutch for support.

I really do understand what you are going through with the knee and back pain... I had knee surgery on 4/11...they trimmed the meniscus...and everything else in there...seriously..also had a monster baker's cyst which they drained.. Yes the surgery is hard at first especially keeping to the pain mgmt. contract... I am still have a lot of pain ... have to figure that out...especially as I am having spinal surgery on 6/30... I can only suggest that you have a couple of ice packs...keep the knee elevated..that is what helps the best.. Don't try, like I did, to do too much too soon..that is tough and you should not do that to yourself.

I am having trouble with both of my knees also and just had the surgery on my L5-S1. Is this common to have knee and back problems at the same time? I just saw my rheumatologist last week and he took x-rays and said the arthritis is bad but he said he hasn't taken a MRI or CT scan yet. It really makes it hard on walking with everything out of wack.

My back problems have caused my left leg to become weak so when I would be doing something, I would always be mindful of that. I was cleaning out one of the ferret cages one night and hanging up new bedding for them. I had my right foot planted firmly and when I went to turn my body, forgot to release my step and turn my leg at the same time so I did a wrenching with my full body weight on that knee. I knew it immediately, there was intense pain, I heard a pop, my knee began to swell and within a day or two a large bruise appeared. I waited for one day short of two weeks, it was still hurting a lot even taking the Perocet breakthrough medicine and also with the Fentanyl pain patch so I went to my family doctor and he immediately ordered an MRI, he felt sure I had done something which I had so in answer to your question do the two go together not sure but in my case it was because of my back and weakened left leg that caused me to injure my right knee.

Does that make any sense??

Thanks for the reply and it does make sense. I have osteoarthritis every where so I guess mind go hand in hand also.
