Saw Sunset Boulevard yesterday, what a great film.

Purely by accident, flicking through the channels. It was on film 4, and what a great film it was. If you have never seen it, you must.

I *am* big. It's the *pictures* that got small.
 
Oh, oh, oh! I love, love, love this film!!! Can't wait for it to come out on Blu Ray!

The mansion Norma Desmond lived in appeared in an episode of Simon & Simon (saw it the other night) and has now sadly been demolished. I loved it. :D

Favourite quote: "You'll make a rope of worRAB and strangle this business! But there'll be a microphone there to catch the last gurgles, and Technicolor to photograph the red, swollen tongues!" (I don't think that's exact but you get the jist. :p)
 
Such a brilliant film. Saw it in my first year of uni studying Film.

Roman Polanksi's Chinatown with Jack Nicholson is a cracker of film noir.

If you want to go more recent, LA Confidential and even Sin City (if you can count it as noir) is brilliant.

For older ones, I'll have to dig up my module guide with the film list of Noir.
 
I caught that a few days earlier and watched it on my PVR. Couldn't believe that over the years I missed this beauty of a film (I love the old films and look out for them, so was well surprised to find that I had overlooked this one). Gloria Swanson plays her role well, deliberately acting her role in the manner of a silent screen actor, exaggerating her expressions and being over-dramatic and stagy. Great lines in the film and in the end you do feel sorry for Swanson's character despite what has happened.
 
I agree.Sunset Blv. is a great movie.

I liked it aswell. Gloria should have won the oscar for it, she was brilliant.

Isn't there going to be a London Blvd.? Keira Knightly is in it i think. But i don't know if its the same sort of story line to the Sunset film.
 
Two films I would recommend are -
12 Angry Men: A well made and extremely well written drama
The Treasue of the Sierra Madre: A great thriller about revenge and paranoia.
 
If you loved Sunset Boulevard (and what's not to love?), you'll also enjoy 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?': an incredible film. Also 'Brief Encounter', 'Rear Window', and 'The Lavender Hill Mob'.
 
Probably my one of my favourite films, reminRAB me its been a while since I watched it. Gloria Swanson was great, as was WIlliam Holden.

I aways liked The Third Man too.
 
It's not as old as "Sunset Boulevard", but if you enjoyed that, I'd recommend giving 1978's "Fedora" a try - it's another Billy Wilder film with William Holden set in Hollywood, and though it's quite hard to find and doesn't have a great reputation, I really love it... and try not to read any more about it before you see it!
