SAW films on Channel 4 - cut ?

I see that Channel 4 are showing the first three SAW films next week.
The only one I've seen is the first one on DVD.
Didn't think much of it.
My question is this - Will it be cut by C4 ?
SAW 2 was shown by C4. How censored was it ?
What was cut out ?

When the first two Saw movies were on 4 I don't think they were cut at all, as far as I can remember (I'd seen them on DVD about a month earlier). Channel 4 might cut The Simpsons at 6pm but I believe that they show movies uncut, just shift them to a later timeslot if they're gory.

Big diff from them commissioning films than having a different edit of an internationally distributed film for television broadcast, which would probably be different than the original film or the dvd release. Sometime's it's just due to length as much as anything.

Bear in mind Lionsgate always do a theatrical release and then an extended edition a year later. Broadcasters will likely only have the choice of the theatrical release, so if you want to see extended versions, such as director cuts, then DVD or BD is the best bet.

I remember being sat in the cinema with copious amounts of alcohol for Saw 3. :D (And the press that said how it made people sick and run out, even though it wasn't that bad!)

Never seen Saw 4 or 5 in full so think I'll be having a Saw film marathon this week leading up to Saw 6 :p

I've only seen the first one and from what I've read, the theatrical version in the UK was the longest uncut version. They then released the cut version on DVD for some reason. But at the same time as the uncut version so it's all good. :D

There's also a director's edited version released a year after as well I think but it's a tiny bit shorter so the uncut version is the longest anyway.

I think each of them has flaws, and for me the flaws in the first one spoil the film to a greater extent than the others. I actually prefer the later films to it.

Having just rewatched the first two, I don't really get what people dislike about the second. I liked it partly because it was so different, yet still recognisably the same franchise. (Where-as, by comparison, Hostel 2 was very similar in plot to Hostel 1 but with female victims instead of male. A lot of horror sequels are virtually remakes.)

It probably helps that I didn't guess the 2nd film twist. I know some people did, and that's a reflection of it being more logical, which is good. The first film just doesn't make sense at too many points, especially the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes. Adam's key, for example: was he really supposed to find it and free himself immediately? It would have been a very different film if he had.

That's my impression, too. When I watched the DVRAB this time last year, I remembered the supposed extra bits from seeing it in the cinema. It's American cinemas that get the cut version.

I don't think they do. In the first film we had a lot of quite nasty traps shown in flashbacks, and for example we see girl routing through a man's intestines looking for his stomach so she can find a key, while the man was still alive. That was about as gory as anything in the later films.

Indeed. They usually cost under $4m to make and gross over $40m, and as long as that continues they'll keep making them. Which is a shame because I don't think they can sustain it.

C4 are unlikely to censor any film from its 18 version so if the BBFC passed it uncut thats what you'll get.

C4 have rarely ever cut films intended for adult viewing.

Even daytime screenings of older films play with language like "shit" left in.

C4 take a common sense view regarding the time slot and the likely audience

Oh good!! i love these films, think i just seen the first 2 though,,so i record em all..How many are there altogether ? I hope they show em all at some point..

I don't find that as gory as the guy
who gets his arms and legs ripped off at the same time in Saw 4.
Saw is such a guilty pleasure for me. I KNOW they aren't exactly that good but i like the whole setup and find Jigsaw a really interesting character.

I've found that the uncut "Extreme" versions of the later sequels (Saw IV and V) are much better than the theatrical versions that Sky and C4 show. The editing no longer appears to have been done by an epileptic with ADD and you can actually see what's happening to the victims.

The sixth will be in British cinemas in time for Halloween. They've been doing one a year since they started.

Each of them is flawed, but I like them all, except perhaps the fifth, where it is starting to stretch my credulity a bit too far. I'm quite apprehensive about the latest one as it seems they are determined to spin the story out well beyond it's natural length, just for the money.

Channel 4 cut two of the most horrible scenes from 'Silent Hill' - Cheryl burning alive and Anna's whole skin being ripped off in one pull - so they are not exactly happy to show the good stuff.
