Saw 5

I get confused with all the saw films, I watched saw 4 and thought it was crap compared to saw 3 which was a lot more gruesome. I watched saw 1 and didn't think much of it at all, I fell asleep so I may have missed bits of it but as far as I can remember it wasn't gruesome at all.

I can't remember if I have watched saw 2 or not but, I think the best saw film was saw 3 as it was the most gruesome.
 
I loved all 4 of the Saw Films, It is one of the few films that has spun off more than 1 sequel without making it into a disaster Farce.Although 4 was slipping mildly down that famous slope. I am looking forward to 5. I am concerned though despite the Fact I enjoyed the other 4 Now "Saw" "John" Is Dead, there are only so many new angles they can approach prequels from.
 
Now I was totally the opposite. When I came out of the cinema from Saw 2 I had to ask my brother if we'd actually just watched that, totally gripping. I was totally dissapointed with Saw 3, I thought it was tame in comparison to the 2nd film so I didn't bother with the 4th.
 
I didn't like the 4th, had a different feel to it... that or I'm just too used to the formula.

The first and second were my faves I think.
 
There were some gruesome bits in Saw.

The guy trapped in the cage full of barbed wire

The guy that ended up setting himself alight

The girl (Amanda) that had to cut open the guy while he was alive to get the key.

You must have missed those scenes.

I'd also say that Saw probably has 1 of the best endings in a horror film.I never saw the twist coming.
 
I thought Saw 4 was the poorest so far.

It's just not the same after Jigsaw's death.

Are we going to have flashbacks within flashbacks within flashbacks to explain the plot now?

It's become too convoluted...time to end it I say.
 
Same here, I didn't get it at first. But I did enjoy the flashbacks. But when we are shown Detective Hoffman in the morgue, listening to John's tape, founded in his stomach and apparently he poured with wax, as seen in Saw 3 - which he said that his work will continue, it was shown twice.

First time, the morgue scene, was near the beginning of the film, but the second time shown near the end of the film, is when we found out that the tape that John recorded was that he was talking to his next apprentice, Hoffman, about carrying on his work.
 
I agree with you on Saw 2 and Saw 3. I did see Saw 4 and liked it better than 3.

I suspect different people are looking for different things. For me the Saw films have been partly thriller, and the character and motivation of Jigsaw are a big part of what makes them special. He was always on the agenda to be explored. Which is what the 4th film does, by going into his history and what led him to his unusual philosophy. If people aren't interested in that stuff then I can see why they wouldn't like the film.

However, 4 is also a return to form in terms of the horror elements, with better, more imaginative contraptions and predicaments. I felt 3 was a bit weak in that area.
 
I do actually watch for the story lol, the twists especially (i'm a sucker for a twist). I don't rate the films on their gore and would hope most other people don't (I know some people do)
 
I don't rate them on gore, but I do rate them on the macabre traps which need to be imaginative and brutal. Saw III didn't score very highly on that, with Jeff's traps being rather weak. IV seemed a return to form.
 
Well that's a slightly better way of putting what I meant lol it's just when I watch a film like saw I expect there to be some gore and some shocks and when there aren't many I get disappointed because I want to be shocked not bored. If you get what I mean.
