I,m thinking of buying "Saw 1", I,ve heard it,s gorey. If anybody has seen Saw1, is it the type of horror/thriller that makes you jump?. How gorey is it?

I think there is only 1 or 2 moments that will make you jump. Unlike the sequels, Saw 1 tries to be more psychological instead of being an out and out gore-fest. Yes, it does have gore in it, but it isn't gratuitous. Saw 1 is also the best of the franchise.

I hate horror movies...but I have loaRAB of frienRAB who love them. They all know how much I hate them but I do love psychological/thriller's... loaRAB of my frienRAB have told me to watch it as it is quite violent but not scary. Makes you think and makes you wonder... I am persuading myself to see it now :p

Saw 1 is a very good film. I don't know why people call them "horror films" to be honest (at least the first one anyway), to me they are "psychological thrillers" in the same style as 'Se7en', Saw is never scary, just tense.

And the ending is one of the greatest "Jaw drop" moments of recent times.

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying that Saw 3 was a let-down, but it definately felt different to the first two. As commented on further up, the first film traded more on the psychological element of each scene, rather than just going for gore. To a lesser extent, it can also be claimed than Saw 2 was the same. Saw 3 on the other hand went for gore to an unnecessary degree. Saw 3 remains the only film I've ever had to turn away from because the gore was so bad. As a self-confessed horror film fan, I'm not at all squeamish when it comes to gore, but Saw 3 simply went too far. I still enjoyed it, so wouldn't call it a let-down, it's just they forgot it was the psychological element, not the gore that made the first two films what they were.
