I absolutly adore this movie, even though all the Christ loving was a little much. I'm a Christian myself, but some of the characters in this movie were too Jesus centered. It was really funny thought out the movie; I love the scene where Mary in labor and she going to the hostipal.
Parametic: Only one of you can go with her.
Dean: I'm the father!
Patrick: I'm the boyfriend!
Mitch: [points to Dean] I'm his boyfriend!
And then Mary's mom gets in, this has to be my favortie scene. It is funny and charming at the same time.
I also like how we never knew what happen to Hilary Faye after she smash her van. Or if Pastor Skip ever come into the hostipal to congrat Mary on the baby. It kinda make it less of a Hollywood ending where every loose end is tied up and some things are just left in the air. I like that, something different.
The teen couples were great:
Mary and Patrick were sweet and good for each other. He got her to accept that she was still a wonderful person and she got him to smile that beatiful smile of his. I'm a very big fan of Patrick Fugit, not only is he a great actor, he is also very good looking.
Cassandra and Roland were the more trickters of the teen couples. They were always behind playing a trick on Hilary Faye or breaking some rule. They brought humor to a situation and just clicked as a couple. I liked how they like each other for who they were and not what they could give each other.
Dean and Mitch were only in a few shots, but were still adorable. They seem so happy together. And happier as their own person, now that they had accepted they were gay. They knew God still loves them and didn't hold their sexual choice against them. But it was kinda of funny that no one seem to notice Dean was gay, I mean sequins on his outfit for figure skating was a real give away. Not that I'm saying all male figure skaters are gay, he just had the vibe of being gay.
Pastor Skip got on my nerves alot more than Hilary Faye. He was a control freak, who dissmissed anything that didn't fall under his liking. The more he lost control the more horrible he got, the man was nuts. Maybe he got to me more because I know someone just like him in my life. And he like the character of Pastor Skip can only be taken in small ounces.
Hilary Faye was putting too many pressures on herself and needed to accept that God forgives vices. There are two scenes where she is praying, that show she doesn't really know the true meaning of Jesus and his word. Her outburst at the end shows that she just as miserable with her choices in life and relization that something in this world are out of her reach. She was just a lost girl who liked a boy-whom happen to like another girl. And no matter what she did, she couldn't change that.
Tia really got on my nerves like Pastor Skip, she just wanted to be part of the popular people, so much that she got scary. I mean they have a great scene that redeems her from scary-land and then she just goes crazy/scary again at the end.
I completely recomend it to anyone who want to see a well made movie; with good acting, good plot, digalouge, and visually enjoyable to watch. I saw it without my best friend and I'm deffinally going to take her to see it--partially for her/partially because I just want to see it again.
