Save $99 and do self-install?

Well there you go when you bought your 9200...lol.. Of course BB and FS used to include the dish and switch. When I bought my first 3100 it included everything but that was 7 years ago. My 9242 and 6141 both came without. As far as I know they do not include the dish and switch anymore possibly to steer customers towards a professional installation. I remember about 7 years ago Future Shop used to push the self install kits and were all too happy to allow customers to go the do it your -self route.

I was under the impression that if you buy your own equipment from Bell that you could install it yourself and save $99. I went to the Bell World store yesterday and the guy there said it had to be "professionally installed" even if you buy the receiver. I know you get free installation if you sign a two year contract, but I would prefer no contract if it was possible.

So has anyone recently signed up for Bell TV and was able to get out of the installation fee?

There was always a distinction between a System and a Receiver, exaqple a 3100 was a receiver a 3120 was a 3100 receiver with a 20" Dish. This continued right up to the 9200/9220, after that Bell changed the names. It became a 9242S (S for System, included Dish LNBF's SW44 etc) & 9242R (R for receiver only).

It never made sense that the 2 items were the exact same price for all retailers, so of course they bought the 9220's.

Now I do not even think that Bell ship out anything with a Dish included anymore, I have certainly not seen a 6131S or a 9241S.

Having said all that I was amazed to see hundreds of 4120's in a warehouse only yesterday, aparently Bell had them sat around for a while as no-one was ordering them, I think that was because no-one knew they were still available...

Not true....I just bought a 6131 and installed it on my own....just called in with the R00 number and had it activated...
