Sanyo on Cricket?! Can I make it happen?

Hey folks! I guess I have to admit that I AM a new newbie to the board, and yes I did use the search button. ;)

Basically, two years ago I switched from Cingular to Cricket. I bought the Audiovox CDM-8900 and had my nuraber ported over. I loved my 8900. Always got compliments on it, and it was superb! Unfortunately, I dropped it in the wash machine, and let me tell you...they sink fast! As a result, four months ago I had to buy a new phone. I went with the Kyocera Xcursion. I was very weary of going with the Xcursion, because I knew nothing other than Kyocera made somewhat cheap phones. I didn't like the way the 8910 looked, and didn't want a Razr. Here I am with a phone that I hate and want to ditch it fast!

Without doing any research other than knowing that FCC Guidelines protect us consumers by saying that we can use any cell phone on any company regardless of where you bought as long as it is compatible with their service. So I bought the new Sanyo MM-8300 made for Sprint off of eBay. Well, it didn't work because it wasn't flashed. After two solid days of going all over the Knoxville, Tennessee area I couldn't get it flashed. So I returned it.

Later that day, I noticed a Sanyo SCP-8200 for Sprint that had been reprogrammed for Cricket new in box on eBay. I bought it, and anxiously await it.

My question to you: When I call up the 1-800 nuraber and speak with the rep and get my ESN switched over, will I get be able to use text messaging. Picture Messaging, I am not worried about, I never use it. I do however need to use my call, call waiting, caller-ID, and text messaging. Has anyone tried a phone that has been reprogrammed into Cricket and had these things work?

Sorry for all my blabbing on here! I anxiously await your response! Thanks in advance!

If you look on craigslist you'll find someone within your market that can flash any CDMA phone to work on Cricket. My partner is in Denver, his room mate has cricket, and my partner sells him all his old phones after I buy him new phones every couple months. He's used a Sanyo 8200, 8300, 7400, and Samsung A880 on Cricket. He's currently using a motorola V3c from Verizon on Cricket, that was flashed in store by a cricket corporate store!

Actually, if your phone has already been flashed to cricket, as you said, all you have to do is dial *611. If you get cricket customer service by doing this, then all you have to do is give them the serial nuraber on your phone, located under your battery, and they will enter it into the system. Because you are already a cricket customer, it is very simple. You will be charged $15 on your next month's bill. I just did the exact same thing, and am a little frustrated by the text messaging. I can receive texts but they don't include the sender's nuraber, and I can't send any outgoing texts at all. I also would like to know if this is fixable. Everything else is great, though.
