Sanity Check Please - Sprint Razr V3M to Cricket

Curious: Why not use the Alltel V3M monster instead? It's practically identical to Cricket's with the exception of a few extra features plus you would get your MicroSD functionality back.

I figured the Cricket Monster would save time/programming issues. Looks like the Altel method takes quite a bit more time to setup and issues with WAP etc... I may try it down the road...I dont really use the MP3 player now - is the Alltel MP3 player GUI better than the Sprint version? Is the Alltel GUI better overall than the cricket?

Thanks! :)

Same experience here. The Verizons or US Cellular V3C or M's will always flash with PST on the first try, but it seems like the Sprints never do. The last one I did finally completed on the sixth try, only getting about 70% of the way through the first five times.

The Alltel ROM should be a breeze to setup! The GUI is nearly identical to Cricket's except for a few unlocked features and menus. Aside from the carrier logos, you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

The Alltel ROM is also very customizable. Just check Mark Venture's page.

i guess i will just have to keep trying even though i rlly think i have tried to flash ten times. whats my best bet as a program to use........lite, pst, or rsd?

UPDATE:

Got my service activated today. Went to the store and gave them the ESN for my phone. Got home but was not able to activate with *228. I updated my PRL to 1040 but still no dice. I called cricKet and they were very helpful. They had me change my MIN to a nuraber that was different than my MDN. After that all was well.

It took a few tries but I was able to update my PRL with *228 and it now shows version 5151.

TXT messaging confirmed to and from Verizon, Sprint and Alltel users.
Internet is working as expected.
Picture mail works. (confirmed to and from Sprint)

THANKS AGAIN to everyone here! You have all been very helpful and patient to us NOOBs. This is a great site - keep up the great work!!!

I'll be watching this threat closely. I have a Razr I will be flashing to cricket shortly. Of course it might already be unlocked, since it's from an oddball cell company, and you an put any simcard in it and it will work, regardless of carrier, so the carrier may not have locked it. I do have a quick question though.

I notice the USB port is also the charging port, and it's just a standard USB cable the same one on my Sony digital camera. MY question is, will these things charge from the computer by plugging it into the USB? I know the Ipod does(which isn't a phone), but was wodnering if the Razr does the same thing.

Im not trying the take over this topic, but i have a problem. I had a sprint v3m which I successfully flashed with alltel monster. But for personal reasons I was forced to flash back to sprint with the sprint monster. Now I when I try to go back to alltel, it fails everytime. I have used PST 7.2.5 and RSD general 5.1.6 and neither seems to work everytime it says failed flash. Do i now have a sweet looking paperweight or is there something I can do. It still goes into bootloader everytime, just cannot seem to get it to take the flash

If you can put a simcard in the razr your going to flash to cricket it CANNOT BE FLASHED TO CRICKET. It is a GSM phone, cricket is a CDMA network, thus they will not work. Two different technologies.

It was my understanding that many phones including this one were dual? So is the sim card thing for all phones or just the razr, or just motorola?

Meaning if any phone regardless of manufacturer has a sim card slot then it is gsm and cannot be used on a cdma network?

Nitpicking, but in some countries the V3c does have a SIM slot of sorts (actually called an R-UIM). I imagine if those were flashed to Alltel/Verizon/Cricket/Sprint that the slot would be disabled, though.

I did get it flashed, but the simcard is something it is still asking for. I'm not against switching carriers, if I can get a comparable price. I'm going to need more nationwide coverage soon anyway, but I'm gonna need unlimited minutes, text, and such. My credit is pretty bad thanks to identity theft, so it's difficult to get with a carrier without them asking for 2 grand in deposits. However it might be easier since I have a phone already. However I do need to fix it. Changing the bootloader and flashing it were successful. I found the info to turn the sim check off, it was in the form of a seem edit

SEEM 004A_0001
oRABet 4D no bit manipulation, 01 for require sim, 00 for no sim need

P2k tools however locked during the update(assuming I even edited the seem correctly), and now I have a different problem. Phone fires up, shows splash, then goes blank. Minute later it lights up again, shows a white screen for a few seconRAB, then shuts down or goes itno suspend. I can't even connect to the phone anymore, but I can get to the boot loader screen for phone programming. To my knowledge though, can't fix the seem issue from there.

If I can get this fixed, know of any carriers that won't require a huge deposit if I have my phone? Preferably one that isn't way overpriced, and offers free roaming, unlimtied minutes and text, and hopefully(but not required) some WAP internet service?

got a question, when i flash a moto v3m from sprint, i know the whole go to verizon then to alltel monsters thing. but when i do that does the spc get changed to 00000 or do i need to go in and change that?

well... that's not actually a sim slot (as you already said) and yes the US frimware would disable that slot. Putting a SIM card into an R-UIM slot will result in... NOTHING! the carRAB are not interchangeable! This slot can actually be found on the nokia 6165i, 6265i, and 6275i that are or were sold by cricket.

I discovered a little time saver for these Sprint Razrs. When you get the flashed failed message in PST after the first attempt.....disconnect the phone from the PC, remove and replace the battery, then turn it on.

You will get a dark screen when it boots up, and not much more than the battery indicator. Let the phone stay on for a minute or two..and press some of the buttons....you won't be able to even turn it off with the power button.

Remove and replace the battery, and put it in boot loader. It should then take the Cricket flash on the second attempt. This sure beats having to flash it seven or eight times before it takes it.

Let me know if this method works for anyone else.

personally i used the alltel monster and then uploaded the mms and wap settings and i usually upload the NAM into every phone i flash so... it worked perfect although the monster flash failed like twice or so in multiflashflex so now i rather use RSD lite for monster flashes!
