The DB9 dosent have to be a cable. It can be just a 9 pin D-sub contakt with pin 2 & 3 shorted. Look at the pics of how I did my DB9 adapter...

Dont think this has anything to do with the network so it should work for you...

What does the DB9 connector do? I'm not very good at these things and it would help considerably if I knew how to use it. Should I only connect it to COM1 and then leave it there during the unlocking, and not do anything else with it or do I need to connect things to it? Please help me.

Just unlocked my own and a friends phone.

When I shorted my comport I used a serialcable and shorted pin 2 and 3 as in the instruction like this (Attached Thumbnail)

The program I used are: QIWS_V1.16(Service)_041011.exe
as instructed in the first thred "started winimei(Z105V1.16.rar) "

Actually that was already solved. I think i wrote in the first post to do a full backup of the phone cause my ringtones were messed up. After restoring the full backup you should be good. The other alternative would be to fully reflash the phone.
 
I have not been able to make it work yet. WinIMEI complains about the serial connection. I have not made a dongle yet, I just shorted pins 2 and 3 with a paperclip, I will try again with something better. It may also be a problem with too much other stuff in my computer so I might try on a more clean setup.

The CDMA drivers, is it the same ones that are included on the CD with the phone, or some special ones? What is the purpose of the keygen program included, I did not need it to run WinIMEI? I can not change USB modem port on the settings screen, do I need to?

When I looked at the .ini-files (Z105U has a file for Telia, the operator that Swedish Z500's are locked to) and some of the branding is defined in those files, sticky bookmarks, MMS settings and more. Does this part of the branding go away when the phone is unlocked?
 
Not really what I mean or? I wanna get rid of the pics and sounds preinstalled by Samsung and Telia. Is this solved by a restor?

What app are you using to backup/restor? In EasyStudio you can only backup your own media files and phonebook. Not the entire file system...
