samsung rugby settings problems.. i change them but they dont change.. HELP PLEASE!!?

ok so i bought a samsung rugby brand new off ebay from a retailer not some guy with a bootleg phone.. it was a legit cell phone retailer..and i got the phone yesterday and i started changing settings to how i want them.. but some of the settings didnt change.. i keep changing them but there are no effects. i need help. first. the front screen only shows the att logo when i set it to clock.. but it wont show clock it only shows the att logo.. second. i set it to answer calls when i open the phone and end calls when i close the phone.. and that doesnt work either.. and third the screens doesnt turn on when i open the phone only when i press a button.. someone please help.. are they all like this or am i just unlucky? i need help fixing these problems. please and thank you
