Samsung P300 vs. Nokia 6265i vs. Nokia N80 vs. Nokia N93 vs. SE K800i?

P300: Even though some people may be put off by the calculator design, I love the formfactor on this model, and the specs seem to be pretty decent. I would have liked EDGE, but I'm willing to sacrifice it for this beauty. The short battery life and the lack of expandable memory slots are a little disappointing (but I can probably live with them).

6265i: I'm currently with Telus, and this phone seems very attractive. However, I have no qualms about switching to Rogers if need be. I especially like the design and the radio. It has a miniSD slot, a definite plus. Camera's not bad either, or so I hear. Doesn't seem to have EVDO, however, which is a huge disappointment considering that the Samsung a950 and LG8100 have it.

N80: Seems to be mountains of acclamations for this phone. I was actually pulled to the N-series by an article I read a few months back on the upcoming N93 (now released?), but I don't think it's available in Canada (save for importing), so I guess I'll just consider the N80 (which has a lot of thumbs up going for it). Apparantly, it has a video-conferencing feature?

N93: Wow. Wow. Wow. But I'll have to wait a bit longer for it to become more readily available, which is a minus as I'd really rather be getting one some time soon. Also, it will no doubt be overpriced for a while after initial release.

K800i: Best quality camera in a phone, or so I hear. Also seems to have received many positive reviews.

...to be honest, I'm really pulled by the P300 at the moment, but would like some advices/opinions from other users before making any rushed decisions. Any suggestions regarding which of the above five to pick would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Note: I don't particularly care for the Smartphone features, as I have a PPC. I think one of the reason I like the P300 is because of its uniquely small size. I know there's a smaller (?) one from Nokia, but it's not exactly imbued with practicality as far as I can see.

As to my priorities, good rf is a must, decent battery life (preferably minimum three days on standby), small size (which is why I'm really pulled towards the P300; I've seen the stick-model from Nokia, but it just doesn't strike me as being very practical), and a good camera. MP3 player is a nice addition but not a necessity. I'd really like to have the ability to transfer games/applications (preferably without sim-editing as I've had to do for Telus' v710), as well as ringtones. Expandable memory and bluetooth are preferable also.

I like the fact that you can view and edit Word/PPT/etc on the N80 (or at least, that's what I read from a brochure), but I'm not sure if I'm willing to sacrifice size and the extra money for that, since I can technically do that on my PPC. Still, combining them into one device does seem convenient. Further, I'm worried that the N93 would become available (by brick-and-mortar transaction) in Canada in a few months, which would make me very sad for having settled on the N80. Also, does the video conference calling on the N80 work on Rogers, or is that just an extra feature that has no function on this network?

Thanks, and I do apologize for forgetting to mention all that in my first post.

P.S: Erm...can't seem to be able to find that edit button for the first post.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure such a device doesn't exist, but it'd be a huge plus if the phone had a GPS function merged into it...otherwise, I'll just use a mobile map like the one from Google.

I got a P300 a few weeks ago. Initially, the battery life was 2-3 days, but now that it has been through a few discharge/charge cycles, it has improved. I'm on day 3 or 4 since my last charge, and the battery meter is still full -- that's still without the supplemental battery that is integrated into the provided case. This has been under light-to-moderate use. The call log does not seem to record duration, so I cannot give you more precise information.

I haven't tried all of the P300's bells and whistles, but the browser and email client are passable -- it's no BlackBerry though! I don't listen to MP3's, so I cannot tell you whether the built-in MP3 player is noteworthy.

Reception is fine around town here in Ottawa, even with the P300's 1900MHz-only support. I can really tell the difference in my basement at home though -- my other phones with 850MHz are much better there. I'm thinking of getting a 1900MHz repeater for my basement, mostly so that I can try out 850-less phones.

Thank you for your input Ian; I was about to settle on P300 before realizing that it lacked 850, which may pose a great problem for me. However, unable to find a wide selection of models with 850, I narrowed down my options to the following:

Samsung P300, D600, D820, 804SS, or the Sony Ericsson K800i.

The D600 and D820 have 850, but I really like the P300 and the K800i (except K800i is a little too bulky). Also, I read that the 804SS is supposedly the thinnest of the 3G flips (as of January '06), which intrigued me.

If anyone has any suggestions regarding the above, I'd very much appreciate it!

Narrowed down to: P300, D600, and K800i...

Since you are still interested in the P300, you might also want to check out the V870, a revised version that works out some niggles: http://www.unwiredview.com/2006/04/12/samsung-sch-v870-platinum-card-phone .

Unlike what's mentioned there about a mobileburn review, I find the sound quality on the P300 to be OK -- fair on incoming, good on outgoing. I do wish that the incoming speaker and ringer were louder.

I'm now considering the E900 as well, only the battery life seems to put a damper on things. Is it really that bad?

The v870 isn't really available for direct purchase in the GTA area (mainly, I'm looking at EasyCell and other individual/corporate Buy-Sell threads at HoFo), so as wonderful as it seems, it can't be added as one of my options. Also, thanks for the sound quality confirmation!

The E900?? That brick? :-) Most other phones seem like bricks after using a "card type" phone like the P300. The P300 is a major head-turner, when people see you talking into a tiny pocket calculator and realise that it might indeed be a phone. "That's a phone?" After confirmation, they get a look on their faces as if they have been lied to by their mobile phone carriers.

Haha, I'd never compared the two before, I assumed that the Nokia one was smaller from the pictures; but after computing the volume of the two, it's not smaller after all. I was referring to the Nokia 7380, by the way.

But even if it was smaller, it seems really quite impractical.

what about the new N73? I think it has everything you want. The price is very high right now, but I think in a month or two it'll be fine...

Just wait for a few months and you will see that the price of N73 will go down. Just have patience. Anyway I got myself a K800i yesterday and never look back. It's smaller and lighter than my N80. The camera quality on the K800i is way much better than the N80. No regrets man!!!
Since N73 will feature 3.2MP and auto focus, just wait for the price of the phone to drop before buying.

Wow, all these delicious phones lacking 850 MHz (namely, k800i and p300)! Must stop...tempting...myself...

I settled for the quad-band phone D600/D900, still trying to choose between the two (I was initially set on getting the D900, but realized that the talk time is half of D600, so I'm trying to decide whether or not the shorter battery life justifies the other enhancements).

I heard about the N73 as well, but it doesn't even seem to be out/available for direct purchase in Canada yet, so I think it'll be much later than September that I can get it, let alone for the price to drop. Thank you for the suggestions, however!
