Samsung :) on T-Mobile?

Okay so I have a Samsung Smiley from T-Mobile. My family has been with T-mobile for around five years now, and we've had a pretty good experience. That is, until I was getting ready to go off to college and had to get a new phone. I got the Samsung Smiley and loved it for the text messaging. However, after having it for a little while it started to drop calls, or make loud crackling noises, or the sound would cut out during a call every once in a while. I figured it was a fluke, but it has gotten worse and worse. At this point if I want anyone to call me, or I have to call anyone I have to have prior notice, so I can use another phone. It's ridiculous and has made me and my parents miserable, as it makes it hard for them to contact me when I'm at college. I've had the phone for over two weeks, but still within the one year warranty. What can I do? Also, is there any way that if they DO give me a new phone, I could get a different one? I have one friend I recently met who had her Smiley replaced twice and has had the same problem each time.
