Samsung Omnia Plan-Verizon

I am very confused. I really want to get the Omnia, but it seems as if Verizon's plans are so expensive.

Do I need the 79.99 plan or the 99.99 one? It appears that I need the 99.99 plan if I want unlimited data and texting, which is outrageous, compared to Sprint's at 69.99.

EDIT: I don't need to connect my Omnia to my laptop for internet access. I simply want 450 minutes with unlimited data and texting. It's confusing to tell whether I need the 79.99 plan or the 99.99 plan, but it looks like I need the latter. But I noticed that the highest you can go with non-smartphones such as the Dare is 79.99.

Let me try and help clear things up. Yes, I do agree...the wireless industry is the most expensive communications industry. Remember, a cell phone is not a necessity, it is a luxury. Also, Verizon Wireless is the most expensive wireless carrier in the United States. Them and AT&T are neck and neck for highest pricing. They both offer superior coverage, compared to Sprint.

You would need the $99.99 plan. This includes unlimited messaging and unlimited data. This plan is referred to as the PDA/Smartphone Nationwide Email & Messaging. Yes, the data plans are mandatory, so this is the minimum. It includes unlimited messaging, unlimited data (for internet, email, and 3G services)

The Dare is not a smartphone, so it could be activated on any Verizon Wireless basic voice plan. The Premium Plan ($79.99) includes just about everything the Dare can do. It includes unlimited messaging, unlimited data, mobile email, VZNavigator, V CAST V-Pack, and more.

I did look at Sprint's pricing. You are correct. They are much, much cheaper than Verizon Wireless. I expected this because they are not considered an "All Out" National Carrier. They are similar to T-Mobile. Verizon Wireless and AT&T are considered "All Out" National Carriers. This means, they rely more on their own coverage than other carriers' coverage. This means more of your features will work more frequently in more areas.

Good Coverage=Bad Pricing
Bad Coverage=Excellent Pricing

Thanks!

That helped out a lot. And it's what I was thinking. I guess I'll have to get a non-smartphone that can do data good or go with Sprint. I do get a 20% discount on each network, but I'm a college student and the $30 difference could be a deal breaker for me where as 10 bucks in difference wouldn't hurt.

I'm hesitant on going with Sprint because of the coverage. Like you said. I just threw the Dare out there. The Glyde looks like something I'd enjoy.

Thanks again.

Well, I do really encourage you to try Verizon Wireless.

Yes, they are more expensive...but in the end, it works out.

Also, check coverage (including 3G) on their websites. Make sure you pick the one which will work the best.

Verizon Wireless, on their website, has a link that will compare their 3G to Sprint's. It is actually a fact, not something Verizon threw together.

Also, maybe one of my previous threads can help you better decide which phone, if you were to go to Verizon Wireless.

nickrm,

That is a very useful tool to compare service. Once my new contract is up I may switch from Verizon if they require the data plan on a phone like the dare as it starts to become worthwhile switching to save money.

I hope Verizon lowers some of the price plans or offers a different data plan instead of the unlimited.

Also how do you like the Krave? I purchased one originally then returned it as I had issues with it rebooting and switched to the dare.

Overall, it seems to be a great phone.

It has all of the attractive features that I need/want it to have.

I have noticed some random reboots, but yesterday...Verizon Wireless released an OTA update for this device, it hasn't reset since.

That is what I understand as well - having just been at the VZN store. The $29.99 is for SmartPhones .... (Omnia, Storm, etc..) The DARE, VOYAGER, and other Touch Screen phones (not PDAs) are $15/mo. for unlimited data - NOT TEXT MESSAGING !!

WRONG any Smart/PDA phone that comes out after Nov 14 2008 will have to sign up for a data plan I just bought yet another XV6800 paid 204 and i get 70 dollars back when i get the rebate. It is still the best deal and best pda phone out there with lots of custimised software and FULL GPS.

So if you go to thier web site order a xv6800 right now you have the choice of getting the pay per MB plan or the 29.99 or the 39.99 plan. but if you buy one of the other new ones you have to take the 29.99 plan.

I am a VZW REP
