Samsung L810v Battery Problem?

I have a Samsung L810v mobile phone. One day I was down the beach and a wave suddenly came and wet me which led to my phone getting wet. My phone only works briefly when I plug the charger in. However, when I remove the charger it goes off straight away.

Could someone tell me whether I can just buy a new battery or is the phone dead?
