Samsung F840: The worst 5Mpx camera I have ever seen

Some years ago I bought an Energy Sistem 5Mpx camera. It was my first experience with digital picture but it seemed to me the pictures it takes were really bad, not acceptable at all. But when I could compare it with a Pentax 5Mpx camera then I realize my camera was worse than I thought.

At that time I thought I had the worst 5Mpx camera in town
 
hehe, dont expect miracles, they're only plastic leneses cameras [the phone ones], if you want to take photos buy a decent digital camera, and a word about pentax, I use it, love it, although I have analog mz6
 
Yep, but my Motorola V9 is also a cell phone, an it has just a 2Mpx camera, must see the pictures it takes!
I found the F480 pictures quality to be extremely bad, people must know.
 
I have the same problem, however i noticed just after you take a pic its all pin sharp then blink and it blurs, I upload the pics to my pc to have a look and they pin sharp accaptable for a 5meg camera phone. Maybe it the screen as pc displays them fine hope that helps
 
the problem is you _have_to_ keep phone steady for some time _after_ you even think it took the photo, otherwise they may be blurred
 
I agree, it seems to be properly focused at button half press, but when taking the picure it appears blurred. Hopfully it does not seem to be a quality lens problem but a software problem that can be fixed.



I disagree it appears blurred also when viewed larger in computer screen. Maybe it seems good enough for you because it looks nicer when viewed larger but believe me, pictures are still blurred, out of focus.

To see the problem you need to compare same picture taken with other devices. I do not expect a picture like it was taken with my Pentax 5Mpx camera or with a Nokia with built-in Carl Zeis lens. I just expect 5Mpx focused pictures, am I asking too much?

I am to upload a couple of pictures, one taken with F480 and the other one taken with cell phone Motorola V9 2Mpx camera.
 
Some days ago I wrote this email to Samsung (aproximate translation, sorry for my english):

I just acquired 2 units SGH-F480 and in both I have observed that the photos obtained with 5Mpx built-in camera are of terrible quality.
I have carried out comparative photos with Motorota V9 2Mpx camera and also with 2 cameras of 5Mpx that I have and I must say that the result is unacceptable:

Only acceptable photos are obtained when tons of light available.
No photo correctly focused.
All the photos have problem of red color balance.

Because I have 2 units with identical results in coincidence with the little information that is appearing in the Web, I understand that it is not about a failure but unacceptable functional limitations.

For that reason I would want to ask if in the very near future you are going to correct these problems since the 5Mpx camera was one of the main reasons for my acquisition of 2 units and with this result it is absolutely useless for me.

Additionally I am interested in acquiring several units of Omnia model, but in the present circumstances nothing seems to indicate that purchase is advisable.

I have been for many years in the world of the PDA/Smartphones, I am programmer and Windows Mobile expert, often I write reviews in specialized forums, I am to publish my SGH-F480 review shortly and it would be interesting if I could add some information of possible corrections immediate to this model.


Obviously last 2 paragraphs are a bluff (well, only partially, everything is right but I am not to buy any Omnia nor to write a review)
Yesterday I got the answer that just says I can take my units to Samsung service. Because I am very patient I just replied with this:

Some days ago I sent a mail to warn about the terrible results of the F480 camera, to which I got the following reply:
…blah...blah...
I have 2 units of this model with identical result and everybody in the web is reporting same problems, for that reason I deduce it is not going to solve anything sending my devices to you.

People with recent models (last ROM version) are reporting that the problem of red color balance seems to be solved, but it seems that the “blurred image" or “out of focus” problem is still present.

Because that, I ask if you could report that discrepancy ("pictures out of focus") to developers in case it would be a software bug that can be solved.

With respect to sending my terminals to the Samsung technical service I prefer to wait until I have some news about the reported problem has been solved

Of course it does not need too much time just to say:

We do not have knowledge that this model presents/displays any failure, if you wish you can go to the point of sale it has been acquired where they send to the Official Technical Service of SAMSUNG to review it.

Still because I am very patient I just replied saying that it is not right, they DO have a report of failures: THAT IS WHAT I ALREADY DID IN MY PREVIOUS MAILS. So I kindly ask once again to pass the report to developers.

Lets see if they reply again...

That's all, maybe that was for nothing but... who knows
 
I've noticed that Samsung's phone/e-mail support seems to be a bunch of douche bags. :/
