samsung d600 or motorola v3i

Hi, I'm deciding which is better: the samsung d600 or the motorola v3i. I currently have the motorola v400 and have trouble with the volume. Someone posted that the v3i's volume can be made louder than the d600, is that true? Also, how is the battery on both? Which battery lasts longer with MP3? Another concern I have is quality. I have heard that razor's can break very easily. Can someone help....I don't know what to do.

Thanks

Gabriel

A friend has the Samsung and the screen is beautiful - it blows away anything Motorola has ever come up with. Having said that - try the form factor of the Samsung as it's a "sliding" candy bar and while I find it better ergonomically than the SLVR, I still like a clamshell. His D600 will not address the 1GB TransFlash card - it only sees it as a 512 MB card. There aren't a lot of software upgrades available for the phone. If you want to flash the phone you'll need a very special cable that my friend had to order from Scotland.

Weigh your options - know your technical expertise - and decide if you want a beautiful screen or the ability to upgrade and edit what you've got in a Motorola.

I have used both phones. I must say I like thet V3i better for a few reasons. I am used to the Moto interface; the keys are much easier the the D600 to use ( almost need to hold the phone with both hands to type); shortcuts are easier to use; no voice dial on D600. I admit I was very skeptical about getting a RZR, but the V3i is a pretty cool phone. D600 camera is much better.

I like the V3i because i prefer the flip phones. I have had bad experiences with my candybar and slider phones. Too many scratches on the screen. I like the fact that my screen is safer in a flip phone.

Well, the d600 is better than the v3i at EVERYTHING. It's also good to know you have a phone that is somewhat rare, not something one out of four people at you school has.

so are you on an anti-razr campaign or something? how about stating the REASONS why you believe the razr is worse rather than just making a broad statement and then not explaining it. I am guessing you haven't even used either of the phones, so your comparison isn't even valid. I also doubt 1/4 people are using the NEW (and not yet commercially released by any carrier) v3i.

As someone who HAS used both phones, let me say that each has their pros and cons. The d600 has the better camera/screen. It also is a multimedia powerhouse. The v3i has inferior features, but is easily modded and has a much better form factor in my opinion. My main problem with the d600 is that I didnt like the UI and the form factor annoyed me. I think that for you (OP), you might want to look into Sony Ericsson and either the k750i or the w800. These are both excellent phones and reasonably priced. They have similar features to the d600 and they have the more normal for factor and a better UI. Let us know what you choose!

Look, I said the d600 wins on every feature. Am I not correct? I'm looking at specs as I type. You're right, I don't have a v3i. I do, however, have a razr. Not even touching features, the phone is very wide, and is awkward to hold. Not to mention I've dropped it like a billion times because it slips from my hand.

Let me ask you this, have you compared a d600 and a v3i side by side in your hands? You said you have. But you'd have to be a REALLY stubborn moto fan to not realize how much better the samsung is. Seriously and honestly, there's no point in lying here. Unless of course, you never actually compared the FEATURES of the two phones. Maybe you just fell in the razr craze and thought it looked cool?

You can hate samsung, but when a phone is better than another, it's probably the best to admit it.

For example I can say that the d600 doesn't have the best 2mp camera out there. The autofocus of SEs kill the d600's pictures pretty bad. That is the only weakness that ISN'T opinion based though. There are, however, some small things like not being able to vibe and ring. If that kind of stuff annoys you then I guess you shouldn't get the phone. Video recording is one of, if not the best. Loudspeaker is very good quality(heard it myself next to some other similarly priced phones).

Stuff like the UI and appearance are all opinion based. So it isn't a reason to say a phone is bad or anything. But I HAVE held the d600 in my hands before, and it sure felt more comfortable than holding the overly wide razr.
Have I given enough support yet?

First, I never claimed that the v3i was a better phone in features. a more accurate comparison would be the v3x with the d600. These phones have similar features and a similar price.

Read your last paragraph again. You tell me that UI and appearance are opinion based and then you proceed to tell me that my opinion that the v3i has a superior form factor is false. You see the problem there? ALMOST EVERYTHING IS OPINION BASED. There are of course objective features such as camera quality and screen quality. the camera quality and screen are better on the d600 than the v3i. My reason for preferring the v3i was that IN MY OPINION the form factor was better and i can mod my motorolas to get them to perform better and do more than the samsung in some cases. Just because YOU drop your razr a lot doesn't mean i do. I love the way the razr feels and i have no problem operating it with one hand.

You need to get your facts and your arguments straight before coming in here and making statements you can't back up with actual experience with these phones. I won't comment on, lets say, the nokia 6682 or the SE w810i because I have not used these phones. I'm sure the OP can look up the facts of these phones and I'm also quite sure that he knows the specs on the d600 are better than the v3i. I believe he was asking those of us who have used the phone which one we liked better and would recommend to him. You coming in here and recommending something because you read the features list off of phonescoop is not helpful to him.

I'm not trying to be rude, but I have seen you posting in other threads and you seem to have your own little personal vendetta against the Razr in all of its incarnations. Its annoying and you aren't helping people who come in requesting advice by posting your biases.

Um..

I ONLY comment on phones that I have had experience with. Okay so lets not use my opinions. Lets look at specs. 53mm vs 46.5mm. There you happy?

Really though, if you've held both phones, I beg you to judge them HONESTLY. I've used a razr for over 1.5 years, and when i held the d600 it felt much more comfortable. But of course, my opinion doesn't mean crap. I guess the razr just magically feels more comfortable, despite it's slippery design and crazy wide structure. No problem with me, i guess some like it.

Now that we have appearance aside, UI is really opinion based. I assume you've used motorolas your whole life, that's why you are used to the UI of their phones. I've used SE, Nokia, Moto, most of the big brands out there. I really don't have a problem with any of them, they all work fine. I didn't say the d600's UI is superior, i'm just saying for 90% of the people it isn't a problem.

About modding. I have to admit i have absolutely no experience with actual hardware modding. But I assume that I wouldn't want to have the risk of damaging my phone, just to get features(right?) that already comes standard on another phone. I HAVE had experience with both phones, so no point in bringing that up again. I know YOU have had experience with both too, so I won't bring it up either.

Last thing, hey man it's all cool. I'm not pissed off or anything. It's a debate about phones, haha all good. =]

im not angry. and i'm not a stubborn moto fan. if i could afford to buy and keep an expensive phone, it would be a sony ericsson. I have a couple of friends who have a TON of money and always get the latest phones. when they are tired with them, they let me use them for a while before they sell them again. I probably wouldn't stick with moto if i had the money, but in my opinion, they offer better phones for the prices i can afford.

I have judged these phones honestly, and honestly, i would rather use the v3i, despite the superior features in the d600. you keep telling me that i would have to be stubborn to like the v3i's form factor but you are neglecting that it is also an opinion. the original razr felt weird to me when i initially held it, but i quickly grew accustomed to its shape and its now second nature. I actually have more of a problem operating my normal v360 flip phone than i do my razr. why is this hard for you to believe?

I'm not trying to start a war, but I do believe that you should go about your arguments differently and instead of attacking a certain phone, explain your problems with it clearly.

It's just hard for me to believe because I've used many phones extensively, and out of all of them, the razr felt the most uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. For example, i found my old beat up v220 the other day, and now I actually drag that crap to school instead of the v3.

You're right, it's all personal preference on form factor I guess. No point for me to try to argue with you on that. I do think however, that I wouldn't take a phone that has far less features than another, just because it has better form factor to my liking. Maybe you have bigger hands than me and find the v3i more comfortable than me?

I'm not exactly "attacking" a phone. I'm pointing out the weaknesses. I mean if you can give opinions on appearance I assumed I would be able to also.
Alright well I've said basically all I can say about these two phones. Good luck with your pick thread starter.

Try using the keypad on the D600 vs the V3i. I'm on the road a lot and I can type on the Moto with it in it's cradle. Typing on the D600 with 1 hand is challenging.

Sorry, but that's because you're USED to the moto. Ask someone who's used the d600 for more than a week and they'll tell you the same biased opinion.

I'll add in something too. You can take pictures, answer calls, and play music with the slider down. That's something you can't do with the razr. And honestly I find it easier to slide the d600 up, than to stick my finger in the side of a razr and flip it open.
