Samsung Captivate vs. Apple iPhone 4

I would like a honest answer of which one would be better of the phones the samsung captivate from ATT or the iphone 4?

Ok well, let's start over. What features are you looking for? Does not having a flash or frontscreen camera bother you? Have you tried an android device? Do you plan on rooting or jailbreaking? What exactly are you looking for in a phone? They're very similar in hardware and capabilities but software are worlds different.
 
Well everything you have mentioned I like but in one phone which I know is not going to happen, Seriously I currently have the Iphone 4 and had a 3G before this one but IM still within my 30 days period and someone had to show me the samsung captivate which caught my eye, no I never used a android phone and had plans on JB the Iphone 4 like I did with my 3G so just dont know what will be better? from the sounds of it looks like apple really screwed up this phone and released it to soon when someone found it in a bar instead of spending more time with it to make sure everything is right before release. Now they want to put a bandaid on it by thinking a cover is going to solve the problem instead of doing a recall on it, So I dont know what the future holds for this phone and fill that apple will learn off this phone and come out with something better next year? anyways just a confussed Iphone 4 user and flash has always been a ongoing issue with apple dont know when that will stop.
 
That's a really tough choice. The captivate is nice and has plenty of pros and cons just like the iphone. For me, after having used my iphone 4 for a while I really like the high res screen and while the captivate has a large screen, the quality isn't comparable.

Other than that it's really a matter of software. Are you a google user/fan? If so then go with android, it's got google apps integrated nicely. Do you use itunes? Go with apple then. Do you purchase a lot of apps and like to pick up what's new or hot? Go with apple, the app store is definitely more user friendly and it exposes you to newer stuff.

For me, I like gaming on the iphone, I play games like tony hawk, need for speed, and the iphone has plenty of ps1 caliber titles (street fighter iv is awesome).

If you really like modding and personalizing your phone then the android OS would be the way to go. If you want something that just works and could careless about customizing or diving into the OS to squeeze out every last bit of potential then go with android.
 
I ordered my iPhone on the 12th and it still hasn't shipped. So I ordered the Captivate today. Hopefully it ships by Tuesday. If I don't like it I'll replace it with a white iPhone.
 
I would get the Samsung while you are in your 30 day Window.
That way you will get one of the two phones out of your system.

Once the phone newness wears off, only then can you make a decision for you.
 
But that's what the op wants us to do,us to tell him which he should get. I say if ur having issues return your iPhone then get the captivate. If you like the captivate then keep it. You already have half the work done for making your decision. The grass is always greener on the other side. Personally I think the iPhone is better for my personal usage. I like how the music is implemented, the camera is really amazing, I no longer need to carry my point and shoot camera to events, the display is perfect for me, I don't like the 4+ inch screens like the evo and hd2. Yeah they're gorgeous too but I need to be able to pocket my phones and not look like o have a boner. Honestly every phone has flaws. I've never dropped calls on iphone4, my issues are that there's no flash support, and movies have to be converted with iTunes, you can't do anything really without iTunes.

as I stated above for the captivate I need a good camera with a flash, a front camera, good music integration (I'm already used to using an iPod for 6 years, everything else seems lacking to me) and it's too big of a display. However the superamoled screen looks good in it's own way. I'm sorry man my advice remains the same, try it. If I still had doubts I would. Btw the captivate was THE phone I was waiting for but I used an iPhone 4 and loved it. I hate apple with a passion so this was a HARD sell for me.
 
Since you already have your iPhone 4, is there anything you don't like about it?

If you really want flash, you should get the Captivate. I don't see the iPhone getting it anytime soon.
 
I look at it this way. If you want a phone that will hold up to accidental drops from MORE than a few inches off the ground, get the Captivate. I had a soft rubber gel case on my iPhone 4 and it fell from LESS than 6 inches and cracked the screen. The only good thing that came from it is that it still sold for $500 on eBay with a broken screen.

Video Chat? You can always use the rear camera on the Captivate for that eventually.
Customization? The Captivate already has a root solution available, so that's another plus.
Size? The phone is a small, small percentage bigger in the hand than the iPhone 4, so it's not TOO big as some people claim.
Screen? While the retina display is awesome, you won't miss it with the Super AMOLED 4" screen.
Sound. The iPhone's speaker really is less than impressive, always has been since the original iPhone.
Reception. (Well, we better leave that to antenna engineers.)

My money at this point is on the Captivate.

I rarely ever use iTunes. If you want a couple programs that I use to put music on/take music off and convert movies to MPEG4 format just PM me.
 
The recommendation to try both if you can for a few days(playing around with both for 10 mins at the AT&T will not elicit the desired effect) is very sound.

iPhone has been a big seller (in part buy its simplicity) over the years but Android has come along way. I have the IP4 and also the Telus Milestone. I was looking forward to the new iPhone but the same phone that wowed me with the 2G,3g,3GS has not wowed me with the IP4. I like the screen, attempt at multitasking and the heft of the phone but other then that, it is a restyled 3GS for the most part and everything except the front camera and screen.

I never suffered from the bad reception that others are getting nor did I have an quality control issues but at the same time the lack of cases was annoying.

I derided Android because I only experienced it with the G1 which was a terrible phone to me. But that Aria was nice(if not to small). I took a chance on the Milestone and i have not been disappointed at all with it. I have never had a slider/phone with a sliding keyboard that felt so solid.

Now AT&T has the captivate and it feels like a nice phone(I played with one today) and while it is not perfect (no camera flash for an expensive phone) it seems solid and the OS feels snappy. I will return to buy this phone by week's end (the AT&T store only had a couple that sold out) and most likely the IP4 will go on the block.

The Android platform is what I was looking for. But it may not for you so try for a few days

I played with captivate today at the local at&t store & I found it to be very good. Samsung tweaked Andriod home screen, but as usual it has at&t bloatware. I found the phone to be very snappy, Super AMOLED screen is amazing! I liked the fonts on it very well! Call quality is good, ear piece volume is bit more than ip4 & speaker is much louder than ip4. When I was testing the call on the speaker, it rebooted on me

I was able to bring the signal bars down to 2 from 5 by covering the bottom of the phone with both the hands
