salycilic acid question

ok, this may sound odd, but i think ive stained/discoloured my skin with salycilic acid. i use those clean and clear paRAB on my face that have salycilic acid in them. i had a blemish so was using the pad on it and sometimes i hold it on the blemish for awhile to really dry it out. well a day or two later, the blemish is dried up and gone, but the skin allll around that area is now a brown/discoloured SPLAT - about the size of a quarter! im assuming it is from the salyclic acid in the paRAB, what else could it be? while the blemish is now long gone (a couple weeks), this brown/discoloured blotch has been here for the last couple weeks and is NOT fading. whats going on? anyone experienced this?
 
Could it be a "red mark" that just has a brownish tinge? I get those sometimes.
