Safety of cooked chicken question?

One of my family put some chicken pieces in the oven and turned the oven off once they were done [quite a while ago]. I am wondering whether it is now safe to add them to a sweet and sour sauce or something like that. I am worried because the meat has already cooled and wondering if it is safe to re cook them with a sauce.

I will be grateful for any information

I would appreciate it more if you would talk to me nicely, and isn't it obvious that I didn't know that? So clearly not EVERYONE in the world knows that..
He turned the oven off around 3:30pm [GMT], I don't think they will have gone off because we do this very often. I am just asking about the re heating of the chicken...
Would it be better to cook the sweet and sour sauce and just pour it over the top .. ?
 
if was too long ago, the chicken may already going bad, poultry doesn't take too long, especially poultry that wasn't properly stored, i think your best bet would just be to throw it away, however if you re-cook it you would have to re-cook at high enough temperature to rid it of the bacteria, which can take upwards of 180 degrees...so in that case you wouldn't want to eat it anyways because then it will just be overcooked and dried out....just pitch it
 
You don't say how long "quite a while ago" is, but if all you mean is they've been left in the oven and cooled (not left for days), then they are fully cooked. You should be able to re cook with a sauce. BUT... make sure they aren't over-cooked by the time you're done. If they were already cooked, then left in the hot oven after the oven was turned off, then they would have continued cooking for a while. So make sure they aren't already too overcooked and/or dry. They may be safe, but not palatable.

Other than possibly being overcooked, as long as it's just a matter of a few hours and they're already cooked, they are not dangerous or spoiled.
 
Generally things can be cooked twice but no more, so if they have been cooked this afternoon then you should be able to re heat them in your sauce. Just make sure they a heated through thoroughly.
 
If the chicken was cooked today and left in the oven to cool than yes go head and re cook in the sauce. All you have to do is warm it over in the sauce not just pour it over the chicken. Don't mind those other people comments. :)
