I'm looking for a safe water bottle. I hear the higher the number the safer (I'm not into cancer) what's the story here????

The hype these days is to stay away from plastics. Nalgene bottles are a no-no.
Try aluminum (coated with ceramic inside) or stainless steel. The really good ones are Kleen Kanteen or Sigg. They are pricey (about $20), but it'll pay for itself since they are reusable.
Regular plastic bottles should never be reused. They should also never be frozen, as they will leach out BPAs as they melt. Since they're not reusable, they're terrible for the environment.

Try the ones I mentioned. They're both reputable companies. The bottles are reusable, and they even have a screw-on lid that has a hoop to attach onto those hiking hooks.

Hard plastic is safer than soft plastic. It is said that when the plastic is heated, like in a dish washer, it releases a chemical that is harmful to your body. The hard plastic is more resistant to heat than soft plastic. For example, bottled water is designed for a single use. But, water bottles (made from hard plastic) are designed for multiple uses.

Get a water canteen!! they're great! environmentally friendly, safe, and reusable!! The plastic ones can leak harmful chemicals under heat.
