Saddest song of all time hands down...*EVER*

I thought I would chime in with a few songs I thought were sad (and I uploaded for your listening pleasure):

Counting Crows - Color Blind
from Cruel Intentions - very sad song in itself.

Des'ree - Kissing You Blind
from Romeo and Juliet soundtrack... might have had to see the movie here..

Air - Playground Love
from The Virgin Suicides soundtrack... might have had to see the movie here also..

why do people listen to sad songs? i thought normal people listen to music to feel better or to enjoy it, not to put themselves in a shittier mood

I don't listen to those songs usually - they are tucked away in soundtracks folder where I don't have them in rotation. However, they are used heavily in movies to get the point across.

I'll second that.

That, plus Heaven Knows are right up there for me.

Then there's "You Don't Miss Your Water ('Till The Well runs Dry)" by Craig David, which I listened day and night after my last relationship ended.

That'll form my top 3.

I'll fourth Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, it makes NIN's version look like "I'm walking on sunshine", but Nine Inch Nails does have "And All that Could Have Been" and "Right Where it Belongs" to make things really sad.

I gotta second Hurt covered by Johnny Cash, for the mere fact that he himself embodies the song with the loss of his wife and his own impending death... the song just seems so tragic...
