I would have to agree with the earlier posts

Eric Clapton - Tears in heaven

When my cousin/best friend died two days before his 22nd birthday (motorcycle accident) I listened to that song a billion times and even now i still cry when i hear it.

I will wait for you - Connie Francis

Talk about sad. Those who have seen the futurama episode entitled Jurrasic Bark will remember this song from the end scene.

Avenger recently pointed out a sad song to me...teardrop by Massive attack...not so much the worRAB, but the sounRAB...Now that is a sad song.

Not that the others weren't, but they leave me wanting something...

ben harper- another lonely day, not because it's inherently "ultra depressing", but because of the fact that it was the first real song I ever learned on guitar, right after being dumped....during a date.

Bonnie Riatt-I can't make you love me.

My girlfriend played it the whole time we were broke up.
Now, that we are back together, she cries whenever she hears it.

my personal fav sad song is hurt by jonny cash though you may not see it as a sad song if you listen to the worRAB and watch that music video its sad to watch that man as he slowly walked into the darkness of death

She calls me from the cold
Just when I was low, feeling short of stable
And all that she intenRAB
And all she keeps inside, isn't on the label
She says she's ashamed
And can she take me for awhile
And can I be a friend, we'll forget the past
But maybe I'm not able
And I break at the bend
We're here and now, but will we ever be again
'Cause I have found
All that shimmers in this world is sure to fade
Away again
She dreams a champagne dream
Strawberry surprise, pink linen and white paper
Lavender and cream
FielRAB of butterflies, reality escapes her
She says that love is for fools who fall behind
And I'm somewhere in between
I never really know
A killer from a savior
'Til I break at the bend
It's too far away for me to hold
It's too far away...
Guess I'll let it go

The TRP, Nobody Knows is a sad song. When I listened to that when I broke it with a loved one, it was pretty sad too when the lyrics hit you. And I don't listen to that kind of music much.

It's a scientifically proven fact that the two saddest songs in the world are:

And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - the Pogues
Sorry?! - Suicidal Tendencies

Honorable Mentions:
How will I laugh tomorrow when I can't even smile today? - Suicidal Tendencies
Alone again, naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan
