R Ruben E New member Mar 30, 2009 #2 S. cerevisiae is used to produce ethanol from sugar. Ethanol is used in medicine to sterilize almost everything. Surgical equipment, the gloves doctors use in surgery etc. is all sterilized with ethanol.
