I believe Asia has 900/1800/1900 GSM networks, depending on certain providers which use one or two of those three options.

As my title suggests. I purchased my s710a "unlocked" on eBay. I'm curious if anyone can tell me how I will know for sure that it is infact unlocked? I'm going to Germany in just a few weeks and want to make sure I wasn't burned.

Thanks

where can i buy the unlock cable...is there a store that sells the unlock cable???pls email me where i can buy it...thank you...

my email add is [email protected]...

thank you very much in advance...i will really appreciate any help...

asia uses 900mhz, europe uses 1800mhz and u.s & canada uses 1900mhz
if your phone have all of this frequency, your phone is tri-band which you can use almost any country execpt japan and korea.

that's right kabayan! you can use your phone anywhere in the world by just putting a local sim card from the country that you staying. but the unlocking code number is only good for your phone and it's not gonna work to any phone. each phone have diff unlocking code.

Thanks for the reply. I am now here in Germany with a T-Mobile Phone card and my unlocked s710a, but it refuses to see the T-Mobile network! I checked to see of all of the little locks were unlocked and they are.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Ian08, i think your phone will not work in asia! you have tri-band phone but the band of your phone is 850mhz-1800mhz-1900mhz. asia use 900mhz not 850mhz. just bring your phone and see if you will get a signal once you get there. take care.

you can find unlock cables on ebay. just search for sony ericsson data cable. make sure its not the usb version and you should be good to go. i bought a no name brand one to unlock my friends t306 and it worked perfectly. i read somewhere that the cheap cables work better for unlocking then the official sony ericsson ones, but i dont know if that is true or not. all i do know is that my cheap cable worked like a charm.

usually the carrier will provide instructions on how to enter the unlock code. I guess cingular didn't do that this time.

to enter in the unlock code you would power on the phone with your cingular sim card then once it's started up type in

with regards to your phone having been a dual band (850/1900), surely, it will not work on networks with 900/1800 band. I think that US is the only country that uses the 1900 band (pls correct me if im wrong). It is important to know the frequency of networks to which your phones to be used if u want to use them to other countries. having a phone which suppports the 1800 band is the most important because most of the countries support this band. i hope this helps....

well in the s710a supports: 850/1800/1900 so if Tmobile works on the 900mhz range in your area then you are out of luck. You can move to an area that has 1800mhz signal. or you can sell your s710a and buy an s700i which supports 900/1800/1900.

good luck!

Codey, i tried that ** thing, because my phone is supposed to be unlocked but i get a message to put in a correct sim card. I can't seem to put it anywhere, unless i go into the emercency call list thing, but it still doesn't work. or did you want me to put the "

This is the exact thread on a forum I need. I was given a new s710a from Cingular and I have T-mobile.

My friend called to get the code and was rebuffed. I will try to go back to the well and have my friend say they need to use it overseas.

If someone has the code and instructions, can you please just post it or e-mail it to me privately?

Thanks in advance.

No one has your code man. only way to get it is direct from carriers or by using software and a cable.

good luck!
