Nokia E61 is better

I had the dash for a couple of days before selling it, but it did feel a lot better in hand verses the e61. But for me, I sold the e61 for $375 and bought my 2nd Dash for $99. A no brainer for me.

I had the E61 and my ex boss just got the 620, personally I think the 620 is too small, keys are too close together and overall it falls short of the E61. The E61 has a larger, brighter, more vibrant screen, stable symbian OS and a better keyboard. If the camera is the killer feature for you then maybe you should wait for the N95, but since you said you want to check email, run a few apps, watch videos and listen to music, then I would say without hesitation that the E61 wins hands down.

How about PDA functions? Also, how does the dash do with syncing with Macs? My e61 syncs well after some small tinkering, but havent heard about the other. Also what about reception and battery life? I assume they're equivalent re email capabilities.
I have a friend who wants to replace a Palm Treo with something new. Mac user.

I had the s620 for a few days and borrowed my friend's e61 for a few days as well. In terms of build quality, I liked the s620 more. It felt very solid. In terms of OS, I preferred the e61 because I found symbian to be a lot more user-friendly than WM5. I found both keypads to be equally easy to use. If I had to pick between the 2, I would choose the e61.

I have also owned both. Actually i have owned the Dash and the E62, the carreir versions of the phoens.

Personally I would say the s620 because it has Windows Mobile. It has so many more applications and if you want to do streaming media and video then you pretty much have Windows, as i have found out. Nothing likes Symbian.

The Dash has everything the E61 does except it looks better, is thinner, can support more applications and has a camera.

I think I would rather have the s620 then the e61 and i am happy I sold my e62 to get one.

Actually your a little off base with your comments here, the Dash is a windows smart phone so it is NOT running pocket PC for which there are tonnes of apps, remember that pocket PC apps are NOT compatible with windows smart phones. The Dash does not have everything the E61 has, it has a smaller screen that supports less colors, the keys are squished together which is ideal for people with small hands but not anyone else, and it does not support 3G at all. Granted, there are not as many symbian apps as there are pocket pc apps, but so what, the E61 comes with virtually all you need. The E61 does video just fine, and it has a battery that will last longer then the dash.

Well, why are you all over me? Trying to prove me wrong on everything?

I am aware that it is a Windows Smart Pohone and not a Pocket PC, but still it has more applications and thats what I was getting at.

Yes, the E61 may support more colors and may be a LITTLE bigger, the Dash is a smaller device.

And you cant even use 3g really for the Dash or E61. Tmobile has no 3g at all, and Cingular has VERY limited 3g. So really 3g doesnt matter.

And as far as the keys, the both have squished keypads. I like the keys on the Dash better though, they have a better feel. There really is no difference in the spacing of the keys at all.

The Video and Audio is a joke on this thing. If you want to stream it over the internet most places require you to have Windows Media Player, which the E61 only has Real. Sure it does videos fine, if you put them on there. But its not a good device for streaming.

So you know really the E61 is a business oriented device aimed at business professionals. The Dash is a fun device aimed mostly at the consumer market. So it depends on who you are, and what you want to do the device.

Hi everyone,

I've used both the E61 and HTC S620 (Dash), as well as the KJam and Treo 600 before that. So I have plenty of experience using QWERTY phones.

My requirements from a smartphone are the following:
1) robust phone = no missed calls, good signal, strong battery life
2) Good PIM applications = I use especially Calendar and Tasks - therefore, full sync with Outlook, ability to customize Calendar and Tasks view (filter, sorting, categories etc.)
3) Portability

All three are equally important for me, and if my current phone lacks in one of the three areas I am usually dissatisfied. The HTC S620 is perfect in all 3 categories for me.

I don't download my emails on my Smartphone or browse the web, so this is not a priority for me, even though it's good to have for the occasional use.

The E61 was excellent as a phone: strong battery life and reception, robust, no missed calls. Where I found it lacked was in the PIM applications - the included calendar and tasks are not easily customized, and you can't sync categories which is important for me (I use GTD methodology to organize my life). Furthermore, even though it's thin, it's quite wide and thus not the most pocketable phone on a weekend walk or stroll into town. And I dislike switching phones...

I recently switched over to the HTC S620 and I am very pleased with my decision: it's very portable (small and thin, it fits perfectly in my pocket), is perfectly useable as a phone, and WM5 is very customizable. True it doesn't have as many applications available as a PocketPC, but I think the essential ones such as Facade, Papyrus, Agenda One, eWallet etc etc etc are there. Plus it has a great battery life (and thus better than the Samsung i320). Having used it for almost a week now, I am putting my E61 on eBay.

The most interesting comment was made by a friend of mine the other day. He said that he's used to seeing me with brick phones all the time (refering to the E61, KJam and the Treo) ... and he said this is the first time I've got a new phone that's not a brick (the HTC S620) ..... This says a lot I think...

Hope this helps.

If your still considering here are a couple comparison shots....

The Dash isnt as small as I thought it was going to be. Its only like a mm thinner then the E62. But o well the Dash is still smaller overall....

Looks are so in the eye of the beholder...My one main reason for not even considering the dash (after my phone needs are met, which they are) is that I think it's uuuuugleeeee. It almost hurts me to look at that thing. It looks like a dog with braces, or a pregnant blackberry. But then there are people who feel that way about the e61. Which looks like a Poptart.

true true. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

When i first saw pictures of it I thought it was one of the ugliest phones I have owned. But once i saw it in real life it change my mind. It kinda grew on me I guess after the weeks and weeks of countless pictures flooding the internet.
