S60v3 Freeware Instant Messaging?

Thanks, I downloaded and installed Mig33 and have been trying it out, I appreciate the recommendation. However since much like Eqo, it requires you to compose chat messages on an entirely separate screen from the main chat window, I'm afraid I have to say...

Update: After a reboot I have gotten Fring to work correctly, initiating MSN IM sessions as well as receiving them, no problem. And it allows you to type messages on the main chat window, just like the real MSN and unlike Eqo and Mig33.

Its interface is entirely lackluster and has no options to do anything but send messages. You can't change your status, add new contacts, or even log on or off during a session - you have to exit the entire program to go offline.

That said, it does work and do what it's supposed to do, so hey, I'll take it for the moment. Thanks!

or be forced to use programs that arnt as good.

i have been using jonnychat, and imo its a great little program, it connects to AIM and does what it needs to do.
 
Keep in mind that Fring is in beta and MSN was just added. Go to their site and make suggestions on their forum. They are very receptive to suggestions and bug reports.
 
On my phone (Nokia E60), fring tends to crash if I use it for IM for some time. The great thing about fring is that you can also make voice calls to MSN, Skype and GoogleTalk. But isn't that the primary goal of fring - to make VoIP calls?

For a simple text messeger, I like Hier. It only seems to work with MSN though. The UI is pretty good and you can easily keep track whom you are chatting with. It is also pretty fast and notifies you with a beep when a new message arrives. You can adjust the beep volume (from barely audible to really loud) or turn it off. Here is the link:
