S60 vs. Windows Mobile

Have you heard one these HTC things before. It is like talking though a tin can and two strings. I hade the I-mate Jam, which I though was a fantastic PDA....with a toy phone tacked on. And left windows mobile because HTC wsa clearly not interested in addressing that issue. A phone should first and foremost have excellent sound quality. And Nokia has never forgotten that.

Also you must be careful comparing chip speed, same as horsepower of cars. A light sports car with 200bhp can kill a 2-ton SV with 350bhp under the hood. Same it is with Windows mobile - there is a lot of bloat and so they need more horsepower. Truth is that I cant see any difference in speed of my 225mhs Nokia E50 and the 416mhz I-mate Jam.

But I agree with you that current S60 devices are more similar to Win Mobile smartphone class devices than the PDA ones. Particularly as they are all primarily joystick driven devices rather than touchscreen. But as we have seen with the UIQ3 series touchscreen isnt the be-all and end all. It can actually make a device less ergonomic and more of a pain in the butt if you dont set up the user interface properly. The same is true for windows mobile PDA touchscreen, actually.

Touchscreen is going to come our way with Nokia minstream devices eventually and I suspect that Nokia will produce a more user-friendly output with it than either Windows mobile or Sony Ericsson have so far.

Hmmm, doesn't the HP have Windows Mobile Pocket PC though? This has already been agreed above that this is more powerful than S60. We're comparing here Windows Mobile Smartphone with S60. You should come back and give us a comparison when you've tried both of them.

Not really because you haven't compared the correct products.
