S60 v3 app to automatically change profile?

All memory jokes aside, Papyrus allows you to set a profile to calendar events that will switch automatically for the duration of that event. thus far, I believe this is the closest solution for s60v3.

Don't think this is a released Papyrus feature, yet. I've seen it mentioned several times here on HoFo.....and I wanted to go check it out as I also think this is a good to have option.

I downloaded their trial a few weeks ago, and then registered the software. LSS, this feature is not mentioned in the current online manual, which is back a couple of versions (from Nov 06) at 1.02.05. The current version of software is 1.02.08 (Jan 07). The online revision history does not list this option being added in between those updates. I also went through every setting in the 1.02.08 software today, in every menu. Could've missed something, but I don't think so.

So....to dig even further, I went looking on the Papyrus developer/user forums (sbsh.net). There was a post asking about this feature last Nov 06, but the response was that it wasn't implemented yet, but planned.

I still think the software is very comprehensive without this feature, but will be more powerful when they implement it.

FWIW.

I'm going to install the app myself so I can guide you through the key presses. I know it's there. Gimme a sec.

Edit: It seems as though the newer versions do not have this feature! Lame. I found an old version on my PC (1.2.02) that supports this feature. When you edit your appointments, under the Sync setting, there's another slot for Profile.

the oldest version of Papyrus i can find is 1.2.04 on SymbianGear. quoting below is from the readme from the download.

guess we'll have to wait for the feature to be formally implemented.

Google is your friend. We're not off topic. There aren't any applications available that would perform such task.

Your local drug store, however, does sell ginkgo biloba, which is supposed to help you with your memory.

Sorry you think the Papyrus discussion is OT

It's the only software s60v3 available (as of now) that has hinted at profile switching.

I've searched since I received my N73 (in mid Dec) at several of the S60v3 sites that sell (or trial) software, as well as read many s60v3 blogs. Maybe I missed something, but if the capability existed, it probably would have already been mentioned. Most here in the s60 forum are more advanced than I, and quick on the draw with answering questions and/or giving suggestions.

To go OT again.....I've posted a question about this specific feature in the sbsh.net Papyrus S60v3 forums, we'll see where it goes.

SBSH Papyrus for s60v3 can be found by clicking the linky.

I just went and did some more searching on allaboutsymbian.com.... Looks like the maker of SmartProfile is going to be working on this (it says s60v3 support will be in the NEXT release) based on their S60v2 updated release January 10, 2007. Unfortunately, they don't have a website (it's parked by GoDaddy).

Advanced Call Manager does not have profile management capabilities. Webgate is considering adding it but nothing yet...

As has been said above, right now there is unfortunately no s60 3rd app with profile management.

It does look like ACM will accomplish profile switching. A bit pricey if that's all you use it for...

I was looking into software like ACM, but found Mobisophy's Interactive Voice Call Manager first to try (and waiting on a new release that fixes a N73 bug) and also their Phone Pilot software, so I haven't looked at ACM. IVCM is really advanced like ACM (but with IVR functions for a business). Like Papyrus, the main software function of ACM, IVCM or Phone Pilot is not aimed at 'profile switching', so the OP may want to see what happens with SmartProfile.

You can set ACM (or any call manager) to help you avoid situations like the one in the first post with timed configurations. With ACM you can even help your cause with the Locator function...

But, what ACM refers to as "Profiles" are not the same as Nokia's profiles; ie General, Silent, etc. In ACM, Profiles are ACM configurations...

I've been using this app for quite a while now and have talked to WebGate about adding Nokia profile managemant as I mentioned, but nothing yet unfortunately as of the latest version, 2.62.

Very difficult to tell.

Their website is nonexistent, save for being parked by GoDaddy.

The sites that distribute the software, latest being still s60v2 based, but released earlier this month (Jan 07), claim that it will be in the next release. That's somewhat positive that the software is still being developed.

I've sent a message to their support email address (the only contact info I can find). It's [email protected]. Maybe enough emails will convince them that it's worth it.

HTH.

OK.....got a response from the SmartProfile developer's support email address....asked them if there was an expected date for s60v3 support.

Hi,
the update for 3rd edition phone will be out soon. Thanks.

End Quote.

Well. Needless to say, I'm just ecstatic.
