S60 users.. how to filter out ringtones from music app?

so in the music playing when you update it finds all the tracks...
is there anyway to apply a filter on a specific folder or whatever to make sure the ringtones don't play?

You know, you always seem to find some of the same annoyances I have. This is one, though, that bothers the piss out of me. It seems it's only with mp3 ringtones. There should be a folder somewhere or a setting in the Music Player that limits what folders it searches in. (Come to think of it, there may be in these Music Edition firmwares). That's something that annoys the hell out of me.

I convert my ringtones to AMR and that keeps them from displaying in the tracks folder, but in the clips folder.

As far as converting on a PC I believe this can be accomplished using PC Suite. For MAC, SoundGrinder for $40.00 works wonders.

so amr doesn't get picked up... hmmmm... still amr sounds horrid..wonder what else the player doesn't pick up 3gpp, mp4?

sounds like your were born to use se lol... se seems to focus on these little things...

for example

m600 has mp3 filter by folder or quality or size
basic se's like k790a have folder filter everything stored on the phone memory ringtone folder will not get picked up by the music folder....

afaik.. nokia's don't have this.. even the n73 me i saw last week didn't have a filter that i noticed but i'll check again... even if it does don't think nokia will give it to the other non-me phones

I have the N91 and I know the music player has no capability to filter out stuff, afaik. You could try and use playlists for all of your music. That should help you separate out the ringtones from the music you want to hear regularly.

do you use mp3 tones? if you have any personal mp3 tones and update the library they should show up..

ya i know i could use a playlist but sometimes you just want to be able to play all on random...

I have a master playlist which contains all of the songs in my phone minus the ringtones. So every time i add music to the phone, i add it to the master playlist and to the individual playlist. Its cumberome, but does the job.

On the N73 I have used Y-browser to mark the folder containing my mp3 ringtones as 'hidden'. After a refresh of the music library the music app no longer shows any of the tones.

Any ringtones previously set still work as the specific path to each file must be stored by the phone.

The problem is that now of course the phone file browser cannot see the folder so you will need to use Y-Browser again to 'unhide' if you want to change ringtones.

This trick also seems to work for hiding items from the gallery.

Voice dialing is a mixed bag for me. On my n80 it works flawlessly, I mean it's probably only misdialed or misunderstood me once out of all the times I've used it. However, with the same address book on the n93 I was testing, it worked only 3/10 times or so.

Hopefully the e61 works better!!! I love voice dialing when I'm in the car, since it's way easier to just toss my phone on the seat, or in the cradle, and use my headset.

That's awesome. Here's another pondry...

I've recently switched back to using Winamp for all my media (thank god, like a big breath of fresh air after iTunes). When I plug my phone in under Mass Storage Mode, it picks it up like a portable media player and i have autofill settings made. It automatically deletes whatever else i had in there (music only) and replaces it with the new autofill. Is it searching the "hard drive" for music files, or only in the folder? I'll test when I get home tonite.

Other than that, you may be my savior, as I dont' change ringtones all that often so switching between hidden and unhidden isn't a big deal to me.

Huh? Wrong thread olly!

Rcadden, When refreshing the music library it seems to look through the entire phone for sounds rather than just the music folder.

I had already seperated my mp3 ringtones into a folder within the 'sound clips' root folder of the memory card, keeping all my music within the 'music' root folder.

Each refresh would bring up all my ringtones too unless I had previously hidden the folder.
