S60 Newbie ?'s (E50)

After POOR phone performance from branded phones and spending way too much time on hofo, I finally took the plunge and got my hands on my first S60 phone (many thanks to 'forumreader'). The phone has great reception and so far I am absolutely in love and may never again buy a branded phone. I have just a few questions...

1) Contacts on my old SIM card were organized in FIRST LAST format. Contacts synced from Outlook are on the phone in LAST, FIRST format. Any way to coordinate this a little better and have everything appear the same?

2) On the 'home page' (don't know what you call the main screen) I am not thrilled with the Calendar appearance. My Outlook calendar was synced with the phone, but the phone's screen is displaying a meeting for Monday and skipping over scheduled events for this Sunday. Where can I set the main page Calendar settings? I have explored everywhere but can't find anything which allows me to select what shows up and how.

3) How do I know what version of Symbian my phone is running?

4) Any programs I absolutely can not live without? So far I have Mobile Weather, QReader, Calcium, AutoLock and Snake.

Other than that all is well. The wife is already jealous and mad that I have another gadget and it's only been one evening! I know I should set it down and walk away for a little bit, but I can't help myself. Hopefully this phone will end all of my worries. Thanks to everyone on the site for the great help and information!

In Contacts, go to "Settings" on the left soft key and change it

You cant. It will show everything you have due in that day. But have appts at 2pm today, they will show up on that screen until 2pm only. Otherwise you can go to you calendar and in the month view hover above the day in question. There you will see super-short summary of all appts for the day

All depends on on you and how you live your life, so its really hard to say for another person.

Good job, Skagen, and welcome to the wonderful world of Unbranded, OP.

I think Skagen covered everything pretty well. Though you should make sure that the date is set correctly, that could be why it's skipping Sunday.

As for apps, there's a freeware thread at the top of this forum, or head over to Tommi's S60 blog blogs.s60.com/tommi, he just posted a favorite apps list, and it covers just about everything, with links.

You can also head over to my page and click on the "Archives and Categories" button at the top and choose the "Applications" category. There's a good number in there.

Basically, though, if you want your phone to do it, there's an app somewhere that lets you. Just google or ask on here. BUt please read through that freewares thread before starting a new thread.
