S50 Turn Signal Relocation

Just bought a S50 a month ago. Ordered the stock saddlebag support mounts. Purchased a Saddlemen Midnight Express Desperado saddlebag. Problem is that the turn signals are in the way! Any suggestions for turn signal relocation? I haven't been able to find a kit for the S50 while there are many out for Harleys. The only thing I was able to find was a steel bracket that I assume I will need to drill into my fender right next to my taillight? Or other suggestions?

If you are going to drill, just drill right through the fender and mount some aftermarket lights. That's what I did- I'll snap a pic and try to remember to post it later.

But those brakets would be good to mount to the license plate mount to hang the turn signals there. Or you could make something similar yourself, out of a strip of metal bent 90-degrees at the ends, drilled with two holes to hold it to the plate mount and one bigger hole on each bend for the signals.
 
Thanks. I was thinking that I could probably find something similar to these brackets at a hardware store or like you said, just make my own. I am worried about the visibility of the turn signals being right next to the license plate and brake light. The way they are now stock, they stick out pretty well and is visible. Any thoughts?
 
My bike has saddlebags that require the signals to be relocated to the plate. They provided the kit.

You can see them mounted as such in this old picture.
 
Thanks for the pic wildwolf. It seems to be though that because they are so much lower now (being next to the license plate I mean) that they would be less visible to drivers (car) behind me. Are those stock turn signals or aftermarket? Any tips/suggestions when redoing the wiring?
 
Stock. I did have to splice in an extension for each side...but that was trivial. You'll need to take the back seat off to get to the wiring for the signals, btw. In the three years I have ridden with the signals like that, I have never been hit by a car from behind. :)

I have one of these for my brake light as well.

If someone is so close that they can't see your turn signals on the plate, then they are probably going to hit you no matter what! LOL!

I was run over from behind, on a bike with stock turn signals and a brake light flasher. I guess if she couldn't see the 240 pound guy on the 800 pound Harley she wasn't gonna see the brake light either. I do love that tailblazer brake loght modulator though- if I had my way every bike would come from the factory with one of those.

You know, come to think of it, I might have one of those kits sitting around on the shelf to relocate the lights. I put a set of leatherlike bags on an Intruder 800, but used aftermarket lights mounted to the fender, so I bet I still have that turn signal relocation kit laying around...I'll check when I get home. If I still have it it's your's if you pay postage.


Ahhh...here is what I did, using a 3/8 drill bit and some cheap turn signals from the bargain bin of the local sportbike shop:

Thanks DrBob. So what is the turn signal location kit like? Can I use it to keep my stock signals? I was just thinking I might do something like you did and drill into the fender, maybe look for some brackets at the hardware store but I would be happy to pay for the kit, you could send it COD. I will pm you my address.

The kit is what you see in the pic Wildwolf linked to. It's basically a angle bar and hardware so you can relocate your stock signals to the plate mount, behind the saddlebags.

I didn't need any brackets for my set up- I just drilled two holes, as I bought 'universal' fit lights that have a stalk that just threads through a hole with a nut on the backside, like these:

They range in price to about $20 a set, but I got the black ones on that VS800 for $6 in the bargain bin.
 
If I remember, I'll take a pic or two of the wife's bike tonight from the rear. She's got a set of aftermarkets that might work as well, but I've no idea what brand they are, as they came on the bike.
 
I ended up being able to mount my saddlebags without having to relocate the turn signals. They are a little bit more forward then I wanted and they are not completely in line with the saddlebag supports but it was the easier option (for now anyways)
 
The Leatherlyke bags are great for the S50. The turn signal relocator kit was included in the price and there are helmet clips on each side bag. I recently added the medium cruiser case to my luggage rack. I went on a 1600 mile road trip and was able to carry everything I needed for the week in my three leatherlyke bags and a tailbag strapped to my passenger seat (the Willie & Max Hooker works great under the seat to provide a place for bungee cords)
