S50 (jetting and exhaust)

After installing the saddlebag support rack I put these on last night. It is not easy getting bags to fit the S50, there just isnt much room back there, after placing these throw over type bags on the fender it was a real job getting the seat to fit over them.

Those look really nice! I know what you mean about fitting bags on the S50. My leatherlykes are about 14" from the relocated taillights, but I love them!
 
Here are a few pics of my S50 with mods.

I just put the Suzuki backrest on last night. I added an MC Enterprises Engine Guard, Clear Alternatives indicator lenses with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, Clear Alternatives taillight lens with a Kuryakyn Iridium Red Incandescent bulb (very bright!), Leatherlyke bags, Suzuki tank bib, Progressive 412 Shocks, and Kuryakyn mirrors. Drilled the pipes (with DrBob's advice and directions) and got the speedo cable replaced today at the dealership (under warranty).

nice - thanks for posting the picture. I like those mirrors. Would you recommend the pipe drilling for performance, gas mileage and sound? It's going tobe hard for me to take a drill to my brand new bike that has less than 300 miles on it.
Maybe I should wait until after the 600 mile tune up.
 
The only thing I hated about my brand new bike were those square mirrors! I didn't think they fit the profile of the bike at all.

It was scary for me to drill the pipes. But it has improved my speed on the top end (I don't feel the need to shift nearly as early, and I don't look for 6th gear as often). It definitely sounds better (but not too loud). As far as gas mileage, I really haven't noticed that much of a difference. I was already getting about 50 to the gallon, so I've been very pleased with it remaining about the same.

I've not regretted anything I've done to the bike. I love it, and I will ride it for a very long time.
 
I have drilled the pipes on many Intruder 800s, including the two I owned, and never regretted it. The first one went 135,000 miles, and the second is pushing 60,000 already, so apparently there are no ill effects. However, wait until after the first service before you do anything to the bike.
If you are worried about drilling, check EBAy for a set of used stock Intruder 800 mufflers, which can be had very cheap. They are identical to the ones on your S50, so you could drill the used ones as a test. If you like the sound and performance drill the originals and swap back, and if you hate it put the unmodified originals back on. Either way, relist the used ones on EBAY and the test shouldn't cost you anything other than postage.
