S50 (jetting and exhaust)

I just bought a 2005 S50, love the bike. The previous owner gutted the exhaust, the bike is now in the shop to either replace the exhaust as stock or reJet (or adjust) the carbs. The Dealer is doing this at no charge. I like the sound with the exhaust gutted. If the carbs are set for open exhaust, will any harm be done to the valves over time?

Looks like my problem has been solved, the dealer called and said there was already a carb kit, but it could not be set enough to compensate for the 4" exhaust, so they are putting a set of Cobra exhaust on at no charge. They said the Cobra exhaust cost less than putting stock exhaust back on. Works for me!:D

I bought the bike from Yamaha-Suzuki West on Alta Mere here in Fort Worth, the service work is being done at their main store, Yamaha-Suzuki East on Hwy 10 and Loop 820 in Hurst. I was told by the East store that the West store should not have sold it to me with the exhaust gutted and the carbs not set correctly. So far I have been treated well by the East store. Their used bikes come with a 30 day warranty.

I use Action Suzuki in Mesquite, been happy so far.

I thought you had bought it from an individual.

We'll have to go for a ride when me and M heal up.

On a final note, after the Cobra exhasts were installed, the carb kits had to be set, they are now set correctly and the bike runs great. The tech said that the carbs have to be removed to be set. He said they are great carbs, but very hard to set. I love the bike.

Great looking bike! The solid black is very nice.

I have a 2006 S50 (my first bike!). I just added Leatherlyke bags two weeks ago. The turn signal relocation was tough, but the lights look so much better near the tag. I added Kuryakyn mirrors, too. I wasn't crazy about the stock square ones. I'm looking to add an engine guard and lowering shocks soon.

Are you planning any mods?

OOps, the price I quoted was for highway bars. I went to the Suzuki shop this morning to find out if any crash bars were made for the S50 that extended out far enough to protect your leg in case you had to lay the bike down, they said no, only engine guards that barely came out further than the engine.

Hi Hot,
Havin' trouble bringing up the link for the before and after.
Anyone else havin' the same problem?
Nice lookin' bike. Got my '05 S83 Boulevard this past spring and LOVE it!

I just finished installing Progressive 412 Shocks, and the ride is sooooo much better! And I can finally flat-foot it!
:party6:

The only thing that sucks is my speedo cable broke on the way home!
:(
The warranty will cover the replacement (I've got less than 1000 miles on the bike).

I love my bike more every time I ride it!! It's been a great first bike for me! And I'm so glad I took the MSF course!

Sky Captain, The sissy bar and windshield were on the bike when I bought it. I am now looking at saddlebags. I ordered the saddlebag rack online for $49. I am going to go to the Suzuki shop after I install the rack and see what will fit, I dont want to relocate the turn signals so probably will have to go with a small set.
