I am having steroid injections this afternoon for my S I joints and I am terrified (severe GAD) does it hurt? I had 2 glasses of wine last night, will this affect the procedure???
thank you

Well, it isn't the most pleasant way to spend an afternoon, but you'll get through it. Be sure to tell your doctor just how nervous you are. He/she should be able to give you something to help that anxiety.

The injections don't last long --but if you are not being given a twilight anesthetic, you will have a feeling of pressure as the medication is being injected.

Try to relax as best you can, and just remeraber, it will be over quickly. I hope you will get some relief from the injections. Just remeraber that you may not notice any results for awhile.

Good luck.

Hi steroiRAB can lower the immune system and sometimes don't help the joints anyway according to some accounts I have read. My relative drank water with a lemon squeezed into his water daily and loved it and asked me to tell everybody about it.

So -- how did it go? I hope you survived and that you are safely stretched out now on the couch or in bed, taking it easy.

Did the doctor give you any anesthetic?

I survived!!!! Lol, I am so happy I had this done, yes it hurt a bit especially on the left but that joint is a bit worse. I was worried for nothing, it was so easy.. but since I have anxiety issues I tend to way over think everything! then I do it and it is usually fine..go figure. It was a great boost to my esteem to have it done, and I felt so good about it, so I did rest for a while, had some food and then went to the mall to celebrate...lol! Now I am a bit sore so I had a hot shower and plan on a very quiet day tomorrow. One weird thing though and it was listed as a side effect..I had a very jittery feeling all evening and a more rapid heartbeat, now that would have sent me straight to my BP cuff but I just went with the flow, took 2 mgs of valium and I was ok. The pain tonight was more of a dull ache, like a bad bruise instead of the old pain wwhere I could barely get one foot in front of the other, so...maybe it is working?? fingers crossed, it will be so great to be rid of this everyday pain.
I can't thank you all enough for your feedback it was greatly appreciated and I mean that!! Look forward to chatting again!!

Oh and yes he did nurab me, I had a nurab butt! Also took a 5mg of valium b4 I went in, helped a lot :)

I'm so happy to hear it wasn't as bad as you were fearing. I've had many injections and nerve blocks the past couple years with three different doctors, and they all have different ways of doing things, so I didn't know whether your doctor would offer you anesthetic or not.

If possible, try to rest today, stay off your feet and give the steroid a chance to really settle in around those joints, and do its work. Sending some healing vibes your way, and stay warm!!
