I know Donnie Darko went straight to DVD originally, but so is this one. This time it looks like it deserves to go straight to DVD.

The trailer makes it look absolutely terrible. Just like taking all the "mystery" from Donnie Darko and repeating it... only this time we know what the mystery is.

Silly.

It looks awful, cheap.

I remember buying the original when it first came out on DVD in America, then it took a few years to come out here in Britain I believe then it was massive. Adore the film.

...and then the flaming hand and pulling something from inside the TV?! Probably only done just because they could be done. I bet they offer no real meaning to the story.

The problem is that it's already doomed.

- Donnie Darko fans are going to avoid the film simply because it does nothing for the point of the original.

- People who haven't seen Donnie Darko probably won't be aware that it exists, and if they do they'd have less incentive to buy it.

^^what was the point to the original I adored the film I had my theories on what it was about but they most likely was wrong

If ever a movie DIDN'T need a sequel, Donnie Darko was that movie.

I love it. I thought the Director's Cut was a pile of balls, to be honest, as it removed all the mystery and enigma from the film (I heard someone on the way out of the cinema say "that was like a f*cking PowerPoint presentation", and I couldn't help but agree).

I'll watch it. You never know, it might even turn out to be good, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. That trailer doesn't make me any more optimistic.

DD was one of my favourite films in YEARS. I'll still be re-watching it for years to come. This looks a bit rubbish. But I'll try to withhold judgment.

Fans of the original probably won't watch it because Richard Kelly isn't even involved with this rip-off sequel - the characters were basically taken from him. I think it may have been something about him not copyrighting it fully.
The people making this one are wrong.

It did show in a handful of cinemas in October 2001. Not a very good time to release a film in the US about a plane with a missing engine.

I've seen S Darko and it actually wasn't that bad. It's easy to hate it and dismiss it as being unnecessary, which of course it is.

I didn't like the text at the start, it wasn't really needed. Like it had been added as an after thought. And what about the kid at the end? What happens to him, did no one remember what happened?

The biggest problem with the film is that if you have seen and understood DD then you know that the whole film is now going to be about getting Iraq Jack under the meteor. So a lot of the mystery is gone. Probably why they included that whole tangent within a tangent to really throw you.

But apart from those things it's an ok film. The cinematography is decent, the score and music are good too. Although as with everything else it's not as good as the original.

You don't need to have seen the first film to watch this, in fact it may be better if you hadn't. You wont have to travel far on the internet to read page after page of people hating on it. Like I said it's easy to hate, but if this one DD geek can like the sequel I'm sure others can too.

It'll certainly give you things to think about, and spotting all the homages (rip oRAB :)) from the first film can be quite fun.

Now if Samantha can go off and have a baby we can have a 3rd film, maybe set in the present.

I watched it a week or two ago, and while it wasn't a bad film, nor was it a very good one either. I found myself quite bored by most of it, and like the previous poster said, if you've seen DD then it's very predictable.

It did get released in the US, but it was virtually immediately after 9/11 so never took off and went quickly to DVD (unsurprisingly considering the mood of the country and the pivotal event in the film).

Seen the trailer, and as I'm already sitting there playing 'spot the scene straight out of DD' probably best I don't bother, DD is one of my favourite films (in fact watched it again this weekend) so this is only going to wind me up.

Did it? I remember seeing it at the cinema.

cant check the link yet, thanks to my work but alas I already can tell its a very very bad idea.
