Ryan Adams appr.

Saw him in concert last night, not as pretentious as I thought , much much better than I expected. And he plays what people like.Which I didn't expect from him.

he played from 7:30 until 11 with a 15 min break and a few rants. Amazing.

The video. I'm not vsure if I got it right, but I think I read that he recorded that video himself. Which would be weird. I think it's the only recording of that song available online...*unsure*

lol. Probably not.

I was out the other night and some drunk guy was playing "Oh My Sweet Carolina" on the steps of a burger joint in Harvard Sq. and I really thought "whoever wrote this song probably thought this was how it was supposed to be played." (when he finished I asked him who wrote it)

Ryan Adams has the right idea about country music, he never gets cliched-ly indulgent. I don't think he has ever said "well this is what im supposed to remeraber fondly about the south" or anything like that. You get the feeling that he actually felt these things, even if he didn't. And the best thing I can say about him is that you get that feeling in cover versions of his songs as well, its written so well that you can hear his emotion when other people sing it.

As I mentioned before, he can be a Doherty-level twat, especially with his early comments on the Stripes, but hes clearly one of the five best reasons the american music market isn't dead.

Did anyone else know that he actually shares a birthday with Brian Adams? How ****ing ironic is that
Can anyone recommend a few of his most consistent recorRAB other than Gold for me? And which ones to avoid completely?

I always kinda thought he was alternative. I was kinda surprised to see him on Letterman (and to have him proclaim he was one of their personal favorite acts). Is he really popular in the states?

See I thought that was a train wreck of an album

well the show, a couple months past now, was outdoors at an amphitheater and was fairly large. I honestly like the tracks where he's got a band. I think the "wonderwall" and "come pick me up" stuff isn't as good.

Letterman said he was one of his favorite acts?

The states can't be gaged like that. Whats "popular" is gone in an album. He's popular with those who count. Like many things crossing the Atlantic, it changes meaning. Your popular should be translated loosely as our "enduring."

wonder wall i can do with out,....

but just on lyrics alone,...i love come pick me up,.....i mean come on b,....i love that line ' i wish youd make up my bed, so i can make up my mind,....try it for sleepin instead,....maybe you'll rest some time,...'

Does he enjoy success in the country or mainstream album charts? Have people who don't frequent internet forums and are only superficially interested in music heard of him? Does yo mamma know who he is? That kind of stuff. The reason I ask is because if I'm not mistaken, he's huge in Britain (or at least the British press seems to give him a lot of attention). I'm not sure if he packs stadiums in the U.S...he should. He's put out at least three astounding country rock albums, that should have solidified his status as one of the best singer songwriters of the new millennium.

Heartbreaker and Cold roses are my favorites, followed by Easy tiger...people tend to stay away from Rock and roll. I don't listen much to the others...
