Running Lean, PCIII and the Bully

Hi all, excuse my ignorance of fuel injections systems but I really need help with my C109.

I am apparently running lean (as I have been told) and it would appear that this is normal for the C109 straight from the factory. I have a terrible surging problem which has gotten worse since I debaffled and installed a TRE (TRE itself is not the problem, it has just elevated an existing one). I am due for the 12,000km service and was told by the service guy that they can fix the surge simply by richening up the mix. Is this true?? Can they simply richen it up and then all is well?

If not, would a PCIII or Bully be the better option. I have noticed on these forums that many people believe the Bully to be superior to the PCIII. Opinions??!!

Last point (promise). If I plug in a Bully, make my adjustments to rid the bike of the surge (which really is very bad) can I then remove the Bully and continue with the richened mix or will it go back to the way it was. Do you need to keep the Bully installed at all times??

I have no knowledge of Bully, but the running lean is a common problem. Manufactures will set the bikes to run lean to keep up with ever tightening emmissions requirements. The service guy is right. But it requires a dyno tune of the stock ECU or using something like PCIII or Bully or Cobra FI2000.
 
Yes, your conditions suggest a lean condition. Here is a chart of lean to rich conditions.

Debaffeling would not necessarily cause the problem but with the debaffle in conjunction with the TRE it could. With the PCIII you could enrichen the system but if you are not familiar with this unit then you would need a pro to do it or find someone that is willing to give you a proven map for you bike. I have the Bully and it is a simple unit that you can play with to tweak your bike to perform as you want.

Here is the good part for you. G-man, the guy that came up with the Bully processor rides a 109 and he knows everything about your bike. If you want an expert opinion on how to tune the 109 and the advantages for a guy like you to buy the Bully over the PCIII then ask G-man himself HERE. As far as buying any unit, enriching the mix, then removing the processor in hopes of maintaining the performance, the answers is a big NO. The processor actually plugs directly into your injectors and so you are able to modify your mix by bypassing the stock ECM. You can read more about the Bully for your bike HERE.

I originally had the Cobra fi20000r, was not too pleased with it so I took it off and bought the Bully. IMO, the Bully is the best unit out there for guys that like to tweak on the fly. Yes, you can adjust the Bully while riding but I would not recommend it for obvious reasons. If I need to change or adjust I simply stop, adjust the unit a bit, keep going to see if the changes remedy the issue.

That was bloody fantastic. Exactly the information I was looking for. The chart you attached proves to me that I am running far too lean as it not only shows the surging I am having but also the sensitive on/off throttle AND poor mileage. Exactly my bike's conditions.:bluethum::bluethum::bluethum:

Answering my question on removing the Bully and keeping the settings (a big NO) is a great help. No-one (on forums or in person) has been able to answer that before. Brilliant!!:bluethum:

I have spoken to Gman about the Bully and he is very knowledgeable and helpful. I just needed opinions from those who aren't selling it (not that I didn't believe him - oh no, not at all. But a smart person gets as much information as possible before spending large sums of money:mrgreen:).

Both your comments here and Gman's information have made my mind up. I am going to buy a Bully!!

You can actually watch the LEDs lighting up to show what is happening while you ride. It takes a little getting familiar with it and then changing a setting is pretty easy. The C109 is a little touchy on the throttle but I think it is smoother with the bully. When I installed my 2into1 pipes, I just emailed Gary and changed my settings to what he recommended and it has ran great. I am really liking these piped too!:bluethum:
 
Well the 12,000 km service has been done. Cost me a bomb too! The surge seems to be almost completely gone. At certain RPMs I can still notice it a little but it's not that bad.

What I am noticing now though is that the throttle is VERY sensitive. If I hit a bump (and in Australia that's every 2-3 inches of road) the bike jumps forward and back as my hand moves on the throttle (moves the throttle a little that is). Has anyone else got this problem (sensitive throttle)?
Does anyone know how I can fix it?
Can you de-sensitise a throttle?

The sensitivity makes corners and roundabouts very hairy. I nearly crap everytime I have to do one.

I am talking to Gman right now and he is a great help. I am hoping the Bully will help with the sensitive throttle as the roads in Australia are really bumpy. The surging is definitely less but the jerkiness of the throttle is a problem.

Dude, she's a keeper! Uh...I guess you already know that! Rock on! I have a Bully as well on my M50. I threw it on and have not had much time to tinker with it yet but straight out of the box, rocks!

Well...after PMing Cirquerider about the Bully on his C90, AND reading this thread, I am convinced I will put one of the Bully Units on my C50T.

My Bully arrived!!!! 7 days from ordering, it went from Washington to my house in Queensland Australia - how fast is that!!!

Can't wait to get it installed. That's for tomorrow. :bluethum::mrgreen::bluethum:
