Running in high school sports .. tips?

Hey everyone!
I have to run a mile tomorrow morning in ten minuets or under in order to make the high school volleyball team. Im in decent shape. I used to play soccer, but yet again i haven't been running all summer. I'm really nervous. Coach said we can bring our Ipod so my mind should be set with music. Do you guys have any tips on finishing the mile? What should i eat before so i don't get cramps? How should i breathe? Thank you so much in advance :)
 
I am in a similar situation to you. What I do is I have 5 small potions of meals over the weekend or whenever possible. For breakfast I have something wheat so that it gives me energy and low fat. I also try to do about 200 pushups in under 45 minutes. Don't force yourself too far. Also, I practice the mile run quite a few times.

Stretch well before and try yourself. Do you best but don't push too far!

Just eat whatever you normally eat before working out.

Chances are, most of the girls on the team will form a bunch at about a 9 minute or so pace. Just stay with the pack and run with them. It is usually easier to run with a group anyways. I don't think you are looking to set a P.R., so just stick with the group.
