Running a marathon stop menstruation?

Hey,

My girlfriend of 8 years ran a marathon while she was on her period last month and now she says shes 5 or 6 days late. she has not been as active this month after her marathon but could running a long distance like that cause a late period? we always ware a condom and never had a issue. i know heavy excersize can cause it but could something almost a month ago keep it from coming on time?

Update- she is now 2 weeks late but we took a pregnancy test last night and it was negative??? should we still be concerned?

Strenuous exercise can stop or alter menstruation, as can stress and illness.

She should see her gynecologist, she may require medication to "restart" her cycle. (most pregnancy tests are fairly accurate nowadays but a blood test may put your nerves at ease)

this is what we r thinking... we r just scared. she is going to the drs on thursday. im sure thats it because we have never had a problem before and the condom never broke... and now being 2 weeks late... im sure a pregnancy test would have picked it up by now... i would think.

also being two weeks late she has not had any symptoms... like spotting or morning sickness... she says nothing feels weird or out of the ordinary.

I did a triathlon back in August, and trained very hard for it. I missed my period for 3 months straight after my race. So yeah, it can happen. However, I'm also 43, so it could just be perimenopause, too. How old is your GF? If she's young, then it's most likely the stress from training/racing that is responsible for the delay in her period.
