I was talking to an agent at Bell ExpressVu this morning. He told me that National Geographic HD will be added before the end of the year.:p

Cool, and the other rumour is *c is getting Centre Ice!
Let the games begin!

Actually, that's good, wonder how they are going to pull that one off.
Maybe the'll consolidate all the HiFidelity channels as Sensual Poet I believe suggested into just 1 or 2 channels with less repeats.
Sneaky little buggers.

Bell, the greatest HD provider in the land doesn't already have this channel?

I'm surprised.

They also don't have the following HD Channels in English

Omni 1
Omni 2
Score
Showcase
SunTV
MMore HD
HD VOD

which are all on Rogers HD.

whats up with that... are any of these channels in the work for Bell? I really wish we had The Score and Showcase.

The agent who told this info was wrong...no dates have been provided by Bell on the release of any HD channels

It would be great if they would consolidate the HiFi channels into one channel with less repeats, and add some new channels. This would put them head and shoulders above that *C company, for sure, no doubt.

Bingo, Mozza: exactly what I suggested recently. Turn the 4 HiFidelity channels into 2 with far fewer repeats and half the bandwidth. Sure, they have decent timeless eye-candy programming which some enjoy. But 4 channels? And with HiFidelity having applied for a half dozen other monster bandwidth eaters ... yikes!

They might even offer their content On Demand to some cable companies. Right now, with Bell ExpressVu as main vendor (as I recall SaskTel -- with 50k customers and 2 or 3k in HD -- and Source Cable in Hamilton -- with a similar HD base -- are the only other HiFidelity customers), Bell can "inform" HiFidelity of any new arrangement. After all, HiFidelity is embedded in Bell's head-end. They can rescind the lease.

I read on another forum, in french, BEV has only the space to add 4 to 6 HD channels and they need to found something to get more space before Nimiq 5 arrives in 2009. For example, they could go in MPEG 4 and replace all HD receiver to customers, rent a satellite for a period of time.

Any other idea ??? ;)

Its been way to long a wait, BEV is ridiculus in the length of time it takes for them to make english language channel additions. National Geographic HD is a popular channel that appeals to a broad customer base. BEV really needs to do something about adding content. They are also sadly lacking in SD channels too. I am still waiting for TCM , AMC , MSNBC , Military Channel to name a few. BEV seems to have an issue with capacity to launch new channels , this quickly needs to be addressed. Don't get your hopes up anytime soon , IMHO BEV customers that have the ability to get another provider will eventually leave if no new channels added soon. I know I will be once my contract is up. I was going to leave before but was offered a deal to stay. My mistake and won't do it again.

You said it bud!
Bell is WAYYYY behind in their Tv Game right now.. Its nice that their adding sat's in the years to come, but they need a Solution NOW!!
I hope some people at bell see this... Because other providers r kicking Butt right now.
So far bell is behind..

TCM , AMC , MSNBC , Military Channel,MMore HD, Omni 1 HD, Omni 2 HD, ScoreHD, showcase HD, SunTvHD, Plus No MLB and NBA package.

They need to come up with some way to add more channels FAST.. my contract is up in less then a year and unless they add some more Juicy HD within the year... im gone, ill spend the extra $$ suck it up and go back to rogers :(
i love my EV.. but im not paying money for a service that now seams to be on a "standstill" when it comes to fresh channels.

But most folks will find the service, as is, good enough and not worth the hassle of changing. They have 1.824 million customers as of Mar 31. I predict they will still have 98% of those customers 12 months from now even without launching any, or a very very few, channels. And most will probably hang out a second year, till 2009, when the next satellite goes up. And into 2010 when it actually starts to add to the HD offerings.

Bell took a calculated risk on how, whether and when to upgrade to MPEG-4 a couple of years ago and sided with saving money and dragging their heels balancing a small customer loss against increased fees and stone-walling, basically, to "surface" shareholder value -- in lieu of channels.

Not pretty for those wanting leading edge service but, the reality is, Bell can wait till Star Choice catches up in HD and until Bell can roll out its IPTV service and perhaps get out of the satellite business altogether a few years down the road.

I had NG for a while with Shaw, and most of the shows were non widescreen SD, so I wasn't very impressed. Same with Showcase. Did I just happen to flip over when they weren't showing any HD programs?

NG and Showcase have little HD outside of primetime. NG HD is a very high quality channel, program and picture wise.
