But most folks will find the service, as is, good enough and not worth the hassle of changing. They have 1.824 million customers as of Mar 31. I predict they will still have 98% of those customers 12 months from now even without launching any, or a very very few, channels. And most will probably hang out a second year, till 2009, when the next satellite goes up. And into 2010 when it actually starts to add to the HD offerings.
Bell took a calculated risk on how, whether and when to upgrade to MPEG-4 a couple of years ago and sided with saving money and dragging their heels balancing a small customer loss against increased fees and stone-walling, basically, to "surface" shareholder value -- in lieu of channels.
Not pretty for those wanting leading edge service but, the reality is, Bell can wait till Star Choice catches up in HD and until Bell can roll out its IPTV service and perhaps get out of the satellite business altogether a few years down the road.
