RTVI+ Discussion

Just a quick note to say that as of November 4, 2009 RTV+ will be discontinued and replaced with a new Russian channel "Russia Today". According to the note I got, it's an English-language news channel that broadcasts views on domestic events in Russia.
 
I don't know how popular RTVI+ was but I don't think replacing it with Russia Today is going to gather any new viewers - Channel 1 might do that. Having just NTV and RTVI available will only make the grey market options more attractive.

I seem to recall that Russia Today was created by the Russian government to get their side of the news out (ie propaganda) out to the North America. Perhaps KNN (Kremlin News Network) would be a better name for it.

LOL, we're finding it not very good either. For what it's worth you can call Bell and negotiate on the price of international channels. They are waaaaaaay overpriced and you'd be surprised how quickly a CSR will give you 2/3 off on the price if you ask them to drop them from your programming.

Personally I wish Bell carried Ukrainian channels. Wih the mass of Ukrainians who have immigrated to Canada and $1.2 million population it's surprising that there are no channels available nationally... other than "semi-legal" subscription IPTV options which are iffy at best.
 
I'm going to activate my recievers (first time customer and I bought mine) tonight and I'll see what they can do. $10/month for two decent channels seems excessive. Think they are flexible with their other packages?

Looks like Russia Today (English Language Russian Propaganda) is part of the digital standard package and they haven't replaced RTVI+ in the "Russian Pack". Guess that equates to a 33% per channel. :(
