I am in Edmonton, and enjoy the Oilers games on rogers sports net west SD, but would rather watch them on the rogers sports net west HD feed, but nothing is on that channel (847). Bell tells be that channel is blacked out for Alberta, but that makes no sense to me. Why would I be allowed to view in SD but not HD. It seems to me that something is wrong, as the HD channel shows NOTHING but INFO all the time. I read on another thread that sometimes the games on not on HD, but for me nothing is even on these channels.

can someone else in edmonton or area let me know if they get rogers sports net west in HD?

Bell Tv uses Sportsnet West HD (847) for regional games only. They activate the channel during HD Oiler games. To find out which games are in HD go to
http://www2.sportsnet.ca/HD/Oilers/

Why they don't show the full time version of the HD channel I have no idea.

I contacted Sportsnet and this was their response.
"A full time version of Sportsnet West HD was made available to all cable/satellite providers including Bell as of January 26."

When I contacted Bell TV they kept passing me to different departments until one guy told me that there was no such thing as a full time SNWHD channel. Which is a lie!

Simple answer ... bandwidth.

The available bandwidth at present time does not allow for full time coverage of these channels. Why degrade the other channels to watch the same coverage at a different time? Broadcasting the game only is a good solution until bandwith is increased ... like when the change to 8PSK is complete in April.

I will be really curious to see if those of us out west will have HD access to the March 5 game vs the Sens. Right now it lists SNET-W in SD as the away broadcaster, and SNET-E(HD) as the home. Are they seriously only going to let us have access to the SD feed when ANOTHER Sportsnet feed has the HD? Ridiculous.

It's already happened. Earlier in the season, a game between Calgary and Vancouver was SD in the West and HD on Pacific.

Yeah, as a Flames fan living in the Pacific region, I tuned into the Canucks HD broadcast, muted the volume, put the picture on pause for about 15 sec. and tuned into the internet audio on Fan 960.

Home games should get HD first and then if another HD truck is available for a game uplink the visiting team's feed.
