in another site it was stated if one wanted a speedy take off or a jump to pass a car, you should " row the shift lever ". never heard this term, can someone please explain it to me.

Thanks
Chas

Well to pass a car you might go one or two gears lower to be in the power band but I never heard of "rowing the shift lever" either...

I've spent a lifetime on motorcyle forums and have never heard of it. Stick around and learn real riding techniques instead. Welcome.

C'mon you two! Get with it!

That's a euphemism/cliche that those journalistic types that get paid to write about cars/bikes use.

Another is: Stir the gearbox.

Sorry, I don't have any specific quotes to back myself up.

Yup, heard a guy from the UK say that once. 'row the shifter lever', 'stir the gear box', 'tap dance on the shifter', 'drop a couple gears'...all different ways of saying 'downshift a gear or two to get the revs up so the motor is in the power band for rapid acceleration while passing'. Only shorter, so they sound cooler!

Hey, to some it's all about the cheesey slang.

ya can't pose if ya don't know the cheesy slang~

I believe the term refers to when someone continues to call until you either answer or turn off your phone. Such a person is "blowing up" your cell phone.
